Overview

This webinar introduces the really important concepts i.e. the key areas of knowledge, necessary for effective observations. In order to observe effectively it is important to understand the process, and what it can and should be trying to achieve. This webinar is the first in a series of four webinars on observation skills:

Aim
To help participants develop their understanding of the essential things they must know in order to conduct effective observations.
Objectives

Participants should, on completion of the webinar be able to describe and explain:

  • the essential purposes of the observation process
  • the key questions that underpin each observation
  • the danger of subjectivity and personal preference and its adverse impact on the quality of an observation
  • what the term ‘evidence based’ means  and why it is important to ensure effective observations
  • what should not impact on judgements about the quality of the learning experience
  • observation evidence gathering techniques.
Who Should Attend

This webinar is designed for novice observers to introduce them to the important foundations of good observations. The session will also be a useful reminder for experienced observers (e.g. Quality Managers, Quality Coordinators, Programme / Curriculum Managers, or Operational Managers) and staff who have not observed for some time.
