Speaker Bios
Joseph Bajzath
Joseph is Director, Corporate Safety at Air Canada in Montreal. He received his Bachelor of Engineering from Concordia University and proceeded to work in the engineering field for 23 years. His professional experience includes working as a flight simulator systems engineer at CAE and then as a flight operations engineer with Air Canada. In 2011, Mr. Bajzath made the transition to Corporate Safety where he’s responsible for a multi-functional team that provides oversight and expertise in the areas of Occupational Health and Safety, Emergency Management, Risk Management, Corporate Safety Training and Continuous Improvement.
 
Louise Barker
Louise is a public sector administrator with over 17 years of experience and demonstrated leadership in the prevention of illness and injury, the protection of health and the promotion of wellness. Louise currently works full time as a workplace consultant with the WCB, working with organizations to reduce the human and financial toll of workplace injury. Prior to moving to Nova Scotia, Louise managed health, wellness and safety for a large school board in Ontario where she developed, and implemented numerous policies, procedures, programs and guidelines to address safety hazards.

Most recently, Louise is proud to be a contributing committee member in the development of Steps for Safety – Workplace Violence Prevention Program. This program will assist Employers to ensure a comprehensive violence prevention plan is developed workplace violence risk factors are minimized. Louise’s formal education includes a Bachelor of Science (McMaster University); Masters Degree in Public Policy, Administration and Law (York University); Certificate of H&S (Conestoga College) and in 2003 she attained her CRSP designation
 
Wilson Bateman
As President of Global Training Edge, Wilson Bateman has been involved in training and consulting for over twenty years. He has provided services in Canada, United States, United Arab Emirates and United Kingdom. Wilson has held positions including; Director of Safety and Training for the Nova Scotia Safety Council, Senior Consultant with Electrolab and Regional Manager with Liberty Risk Services. Wilson is the author of two books 7 Safety Habits That Could Save Your Life and 10 Steps to Safety Excellence. In 1999 Wilson received an Award of Merit in recognition of outstanding service to the cause of safety and support to the Nova Scotia Safety Council. Wilson has presented at national and international conferences including Safety Services Nova Scotia, Industrial Accident Prevention Association (IAPA), and the National Safety Conference (NSC).

Kevin Bonnis
Kevin is a survivor of a traumatic life-altering injury on a scrap paper printing bail machine which resulted in 90% amputation of both feet. Although considered risky at the time because of the low success rate, Kevin’s feet were successfully re-attached. He can now walk and is testimony to what sheer determination can achieve.Kevin is now the Regional Development Coordinator for Threads of Life in Atlantic Canada and shares his story about his life altering injury in an effort to prevent others from experiencing a workplace tragedy.
 
Barry Bowman
Barry has been employed by Oxford Frozen Foods since 2007. He has been the Labour Co-Chair of the Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee since 2009 and has been responsible for developing, delivering and maintaining a forklift training program for the entire Food Group. He has also developed a hands-on fall protection workshop, including a segment on rescue, and is currently working with the agriculture groups developing a tractor training program.

Art Brown
Arthur Brown is an accomplished safety professional experienced in the multijurisdictional industries of Health, Manufacturing and Transportation. He has been a manager in industry, Inspector Specialist enforcing the Nova Scotia Occupational Health & Safety Act and is currently a Workplace Consultant with the Workers’ Compensation Board of Nova Scotia coaching industry leaders on safety excellence.
 
Catherine Buckie
Catherine has been writing almost all of her life. She was first published at age 13 with a series of children's book reviews in the Hamilton Spectator. She worked on the school newspaper and yearbook in high school and the student newspaper in university. Catherine worked for a summer at the Toronto Sun and then full-time at the Montreal Gazette after graduating from journalism school. When she moved to Nova Scotia, she decided to freelance so she could spend time with her family. She has written columns for the Halifax Daily News and freelanced for the Law Times and Saltscapes magazine. She has written her first book, The Lobster Kids' Guide to Exploring Nova Scotia.

John Cameron
John is an innovative and creative Occupational Health & Safety Expert with over 40 years experience in Employee Relations, Occupational Health and Safety and Industrial Engineering. His focus on getting to the root cause of the problem, and in establishing a Positive Health and Safety Culture, leads to long-term sustained results for his clients. John started his career with Scott Paper Maritimes Ltd, then moving on to Michelin Tire (Canada) Ltd, where he spent most of his corporate career. John transitioned to the consulting industry in 1992, where he was eager to share his significant expertise in the area of Occupational Health and Safety with his clients. John’s unique ability to increase the effectiveness of complex systems through the practical application leveraging employee involvement makes the effectiveness of John’s work stand apart from the competition. Charlotte Clarke P.Eng.
Charlotte Clark, P.Eng., is an Environmental Project Manager with XCG Consultants Ltd. and has been active in the field of environmental consulting and engineering for more than 13 years. Her professional experience covers environmental site assessment, site remediation, risk assessment, compliance auditing, groundwater modelling, and solid waste management. Ms. Clark is a registered Professional Engineer in Nova Scotia and Ontario. Previously, she spent three years working for a consulting firm in Halifax where her work focused on municipal infrastructure in the HRM, including project management and field services for the HRM sanitary and stormwater flow monitoring contract and examining multiple sewer inflow and infiltration issues with HRM engineers and operational field staff. Ms. Clark joined the Kitchener, Ontario office of XCG in 2004 where her work included directing teams of engineers, technicians, and support staff, and performing a wide variety of environmental investigations including due diligence, site assessment, and remediation projects in Ontario and Alberta. Ms. Clark worked for a local Dartmouth consulting firm as an Environmental Project Manager and Nova Scotia Environment Registered Site Professional from 2008 to 2011. Her experience included project management, field services for soil, water, sediment, and slate sample collection, data analysis, and reporting for assessment and remediation projects throughout Nova Scotia. Ms. Clark re-joined XCG to establish an Eastern Canada consulting presence for the company in April 2011 where she continues to perform Phase I/II/III ESA, work as a site professional.
 
Norval Collins
Norval Collins, President of CEF Consultants Ltd., has worked as a fisheries biologist and environmental planner in the Maritimes for over 35 years. He is a licensed professional planner in Nova Scotia and a Member of the Canadian Institute of Planners. Mr. Collins has specialized in environmental planning and the synthesis of information covering both environmental and land-use issues, with particular emphasis on freshwater and marine fish habitat. Previous studies have included national implementation plans; suitability of international protocols to address environmental degradation; state-of-the-environment reporting; user needs analysis; preparation of marine overviews; spatial analyses of ecological and socio-cultural factors; seasonal sensitivity analyses; and estimating resource production and value. Environmental assessment and effects monitoring form much of his base work.
Norval was a founding member of the ClimAdapt team, established by ESANS and has led many climate change initiatives on behalf of the association over the years. Norval has been on the ESANS Board since 2011 and has served as President since 2013.
 
Mike Davis
Mike is a Partner with Davis Pier, a management consulting firm focused on public sector improvement. He has a background in consulting, the public sector, and regulatory environments with an expertise in designing and implementing change within government through stakeholder engagement, analysis, and project and change management. Mike has spent the last number of years focused on improving operations within regulatory environments such as occupational health and safety, technical safety, building and fire safety, and other licensing and inspection based government programs. This concentration has led Mike to regularly engage with organizations both in Atlantic Canada and internationally in over 15 countries in Europe, Asia, and Africa. He has considerable experience facilitating discussions between industry and government stakeholders in order to identify solutions to complex regulatory problems. Mike has a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering and a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
 
Leanne Dixon
Leanne Dixon is a leader with a passion for workplace health and safety, and the confidence to take on a touchy topic like substance abuse and implement a program to address it. Navigating operational challenges, dealing with multiple stakeholders, bringing third party vendors in line; she has many insights to share.

In 2014 Leanne Dixon was appointed as Health and Wellness Manager for Emera Inc.,  Prior to joining Emera, Leanne managed Health, Wellness and Safety at the IWK Health Centre. Leanne’s career began in Human Resources, where she specialized in Employee and Labour Relations. The majority of her career has been spent working in large, unionized workplaces such as the New Brunswick Department of Education, the IWK Health Centre, and Nova Scotia Power.  Leanne is a graduate of Dalhousie University and obtained her Certified Human Resources Professional Designation in 2001.
 
Starr Dobson
Starr Dobson is the President & CEO of the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia. She was appointed to the position in August 2013. Starr is an acclaimed journalist, best-selling children’s author, and dedicated community volunteer. She holds a Bachelor Degree (Honours) in Journalism from the University of King’s College and is an Atlantic Journalism Award Winner. Starr was awarded the Dr. Elizabeth A. Chard Award from Special Olympics Nova Scotia in 2014. She currently serves on the Together We Can Advisory Committee, the THRIVE! Halifax Mental Health Working Group, and the Health Charity Network. Starr left her 23 year career in television because she decided it was time to stop telling other people’s stories and start being a part of one. She brings a fresh voice and perspective to mental health fundraising and awareness.
 
Terry Duggan
Before joining the Department of Labour and Advance Education, Officer Duggan spend 21 years with the provincial Department Of Transportation where he was a safety trainer for that Department training in 5 different safety courses and also was the lead safety auditor for his division. Terry Duggan has been with the NS Occupational Health & Safety Division for 8 years now. For that time he has been a Safety Officer conducting inspections, investigating accidents, complaints and has carried out prosecutions. Besides his regular duties he belongs to numerous committees, conducts public information sessions, provides new officer training and works on various pilot projects.
 
Stewart Franck
Stewart Franck, CRSP, is Executive Director of the Fisheries Safety Association of NS and has enjoyed a progressive, diverse OHS career for over 25 years prior to taking up this current challenge: to instill a mindset of prevention, and to help change culture in the fishing/seafood industry. Stewart graduated from Mohawk College in Computer Sciences, and Occupational Hygiene – and obtained the CRSP designation in 1991. Stewart continues to be very active as a volunteer with professional safety organisations such as the BCRSP and CSSE. Stewart enjoys being outdoors and plays music for fun and stress relief; and he lives with his wife Janice near his hometown of Bridgewater along Nova Scotia’s beautiful South Shore.

Geoff Hurley
Geoffrey V. Hurley, M.Sc., has a unique combination of over 30 years’ experience as a research biologist with the federal government (DFO), as a senior executive with the offshore energy and commercial fishing industries and as an independent consultant through his firm, Hurley Environment Ltd. He has authored or co-authored over 100 technical reports/ publications.
 
Lise Jeffrey
Lise Jeffrey is Relationship Manager for the Retail, Food, and Beverage and other Business Services industries at the Workers’ Compensation Board of Nova Scotia. At the Board for over 20 years, she’s held various positions including word processor, accounts payable clerk, adjudicator and case manager. Lise has a Bachelor of Administration degree from Mount Saint Vincent University, a Certificate in Management from the Canadian Institute of Management, and has completed Level 1 of the certificate program in Health, Safety and Environmental Processes at the University of Fredericton. Lise was the recipient of the WCB Inspire Award, recognizing employees who embody the WCB’s corporate brand and values.
 
Glyn Jones
Glyn is a Partner in the firm EHS Partnerships Ltd. He is a consulting occupational health and safety professional and leadership coach with 25 years of experience. Glyn is a chemical engineer by training and is a Professional Engineer. He completed a Master’s degree specializing in occupational health and safety. He teaches occupational health and safety and accident causation theory at the University of Calgary, the University of Alberta and the University of New Brunswick. He holds numerous professional certifications and is a CIH and a CRSP. He is currently the Regional Vice-President of the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering representing AB, NT and NU.
 
Michael Kerr

Donna Langille RN, COHN
Donna has worked as a nurse in mental health and for the past 10 years in claims, disability case management, safety, health and wellness at the Workers’ Compensation Board. She is a registered nurse with a designation in Occupational Health Nursing and CHSC.
 
Conrad LeLievre
Conrad LeLièvre has over 35 years of industrial and consulting engineering experience. Conrad has vast experience in occupational health and safety issues. Some of his areas of interest include machine safeguarding, pressure vessel repairs and alterations, hoist and lifting equipment certification, as well as hazard assessments. Conrad is a member of the Engineers Nova Scotia Public Safety Committee and he has participated on several advisory committees relating to OH&S Regulations reviews with the Government of Nova Scotia. Conrad has been a Registered Professional Engineer in Nova Scotia since 1978 and has been a holder of a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation since 2003.
 
Chuck Leon
Chuck Leon worked in the rubber industry for over 20 years in a variety of capacities. His experiences ranged from Supervisor to Safety, Communication and Training Specialist in Logistics and Product Supply Canada. Chuck is the Past President of the Material Handling Management Society and a member of the Society Board of Directors and has a strong background in Material Handling Solutions. He has been providing warehouse safety training and advice on all forms of mechanical material handling solutions for over 30 years. He is a CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) and P.MM (Professional of Materials Management). In the past seven years he has been involved extensively in the Rack World and has trained people in how to inspect and maintain Racking Systems all over North America. Chuck has spoken for over 20 years at conferences and trade shows on all aspects of Material Handling from Lift Trucks, Cranes, Conveyors and Racking Systems  and now sits on the CSA committees for Lift Trucks (B335 and A344.1 Racking as the Chair).
 
Heather Matthews
Heather Matthews is the OHS Specialist with AWARE-NS -  the Health and Community Services Safety Association responsible for the development and delivery of leading safety practices and initiative. Heather has been involved in many initiatives during her time at AWARE-NS. Most notably co-creating the Workplace Violence Prevention Program Steps For Safety which was rolled out across Nova Scotia. This program will assist Employers to ensure a comprehensive violence prevention plan is developed and that best practices and minimize risk factors associated with workplace violence are shared. The programs developed and executed by AWARE-NS are easily adapted to other sectors.

Before joining AWARE-NS, she was the Corporate Health and Safety Manager for Ocean Nutrition Canada, where she was responsible for the development and implementation of the Health and Safety program. Developing a strong safety culture though leadership, training and education has been the primary focus in her career. Heather is a seasoned safety professional with over 20 years’ experience in promoting a positive Health and Safety culture in a variety of work environments. She started her career as an independent safety consultant working primarily in the forestry industry in Nova Scotia. She received her Bachelor’s degree, from Mount Saint Vincent University and completed her Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety at Ryerson University.
 
Jennifer Matthews
Jennifer Matthews is the Health, Safety and Environment Policy Analyst with the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP). Jennifer is currently involved in a number of offshore health, safety and environmental programs specific to Atlantic Canada’s offshore oil and gas industry.

Prior to joining CAPP, Jennifer was the Director of Operations and Research for the Fundy Ocean Research Center for Energy (FORCE) and the Research Manager for Nova Scotia's offshore energy research associations (OEER and OETR), where she managed the $15 million Play Fairway Analysis of Nova Scotia's offshore petroleum resources, which provided strong evidence of significant oil potential. Jennifer is a graduate of Dalhousie University and lives in Halifax with her husband Jeff and daughters Bailey and Brynn.
 
Spencer McDonald
With a background in education, counseling psychology and motivation, Spencer has spent years in the road safety field. Since 1984, he has trained thousands of drivers, motorcycle riders and driving instructors including police, firefighters and emergency vehicle operators. A specialist in program design, he has developed and delivered training for BC Hydro, Canada Customs and Revenue Agency, London Drugs, Weldwood, Alberta Pacific Forest Products, The Province of British Columbia, The Insurance Corporation of British Columbia, The Alaska Police Standards Council, NANA Training Systems, ATCO Electric and many others. He was retained in 1998-2001 by the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia for the development of on-road license tests and implementation of Graduated Licensing in the province. During this time he designed training for all BC driving examiners in that jurisdiction to AAMVA standards.
Qualifications and Accreditations: Counseling Certification from University College of the Fraser Valley Driving Instructor (all classes); Instructor Trainer (all classes); Driving Examiner; Driving Examiner; Trainer Supervising; Chief Instructor for Defensive Driving; Motorcycle Instructor and Examiner; Airbrakes Instructor Trainer; Emergency Vehicle Operations Trainer; Natural Resources Canada Master Trainer certified.  Spencer is a dynamic speaker and has appeared on national television and radio and presented at numerous conferences throughout Canada.
 
Theresa McGuire
Theresa McGuire is a certified Occupational Health Nurse and Canadian Registered Safety Professional. She began her nursing career right here in Halifax 26 years ago at the Victoria General Hospital and is very happy to be back in this beautiful harbour city. Shortly after graduating as a Registered Nurse, she set off to work in Quebec, England, Ontario, BC, and New Brunswick. She discovered a passion for the speciality of Occupational Health and Safety early on in her career. Theresa has enjoyed the challenges of working in a variety of workplaces, including an international oil company, a national grocery business, federal facilities , and military establishments. Her specialized areas of expertise include toxicology, infectious disease, critical incidence stress, ergonomic, and hearing protection. She is currently employed with the IWK 's occupational health program and sails with the Coast Guard on summer deployments to the Arctic as a Health Officer. She is completing a Masters in Environmental Management degree focusing on human health risks. Theresa is an active member of the Occupational Health Nurses Association of Nova Scotia.
 
Helen Mersereau
BSc. Bachelor of Science (Honours), Life Sciences, Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario. MHSc. Master's of Health Science, Occupational and Environmental Health, University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario. Helen has 25 years of experience in a variety of industries across Canada. She spent several years in manufacturing in Ontario, the oil industry in Alberta and an electrical utility in Nova Scotia. This experience has given her an interest in contaminants and their impact on health as well as how to communicate risk to both occupational groups and the general public. She has been teaching at CBU since 1997 in the Public Health Program, while providing some consulting advice in occupational health and safety to local industries. She has conducted research efforts in the area of risk perception and radon, carbon monoxide and done several projects on hazardous waste.
 
Paula Miller
Paula has worked for the past 24 years in various Workers’ Compensation Systems in NFLD and here in NS. She has a background in Social Work from Memorial University in Nfld and has continued to be a lifelong learner in the fields of Adult Education, Change Management and Organizational Effectiveness. She enjoys working with people and is known for her love of learning and helping others do the same (and now in the area of OHS).
 
David Muise
David Muise is our Senior Occupational Hygienist and Group Leader for the Indoor Air Quality/Occupational Hygiene Group. He graduated with a diploma in Mineral Technology from the University College of Cape Breton in 1981 and was enrolled in their Business Administration program in 1984. In 1991, Mr. Muise obtained a diploma in Occupational Hygiene Technology from Mount Royal College in Calgary, Alberta. Mr. Muise has a Certificate, Asbestos Control in Buildings and Industry (1993), a Certificate, Investigating and Mitigating Microbiological Contamination in Buildings from the Mid-Atlantic Environmental Hygiene Resource Centre in Philadelphia, PA (1993) and a Certificate, Indoor Air Quality in Institutional & Commercial Buildings from the Technical University of Nova Scotia (1993). He helped develop and co-teaches the Exposure Assessment course for Dalhousie University College of Continuing Education.

David Powers
David Powers is presently employed as the Director of Health, Safety & Environment at Oxford Frozen Foods Limited, charged with developing, implementing and maintaining a formal OHS program for an organization which has operations in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and the state of Maine. This includes overseeing the development and continuous improvement of eight separate safety committees. Prior to joining Oxford Frozen Foods, David was a HSE manager for three facilities with the Engine Division of Magna International in Toronto. Before that, he spent a year with Caterpillar in Toronto and began his HSE career with a small, private recycling company near Oshawa, Ontario. David received his CRSP designation in 2005 and became a member of the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering in 2007. He currently sits on the Board of Directors for Safety Services Nova Scotia. He has a Bachelor’s degree in radio and television and a certificate in public relations from Ryerson University.
 
Honourable Kelly Regan
The Honourable Kelly Regan was first elected to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly as MLA for Bedford-Birch Cove in 2009 and was re-elected in 2013 as MLA for Bedford. She was a journalist and director with CTV in Halifax. She followed that up with a career as a freelance television producer.
 
Daniel Roberts
Daniel Roberts is the Senior Manager – Electrical Safety Consulting at Schneider Electric Canada. His wide range of experience includes fifteen years of field experience working on industrial and commercial power distribution systems and over 10 years of experience as an occupational health and safety practitioner. Daniel has served for more than 15 years on various CSA Standards Technical Committees including Canadian Electrical Code Part I and CSA Z1000; Z1001 and Z1002. He is the Z462 Workplace Electrical Safety Technical Committee Vice-chair. He received the 2013 CSA Award of Merit in recognition of his sustained and influential contributions to Occupational Health & Safety and Electrical Safety Standards. He is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and an NFPA Certified Electrical Safety Compliance Professional (CESCP). Daniel has authored several articles on the topic of electrical safety for trade specific journals such as the IEEE Industry Applications Magazine; Electrical Business magazine; Canadian Occupational Safety (COS); and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS magazine).
 
Don Ross
Mr. Ross joined the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) in Hull, Quebec, as a safety analyst in the Accident Prevention Branch. In April 1996, he joined the Investigations Division as a senior investigator. He worked out of the TSB Head Office for seven years. During this time, he led a number of major rail investigations, most recently the 2013 investigation of the Lac-Mégantic Train Derailment, described as the worst railway accident in Canadian history.

In 2000, he started working in Halifax/Dartmouth as the regional senior investigator, Rail/Pipeline for the Atlantic Region.
Mr. Ross is the current Regional Vice-President, Atlantic Region, for the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering. He holds a Certified Health and Safety Consultant designation and a Professional Member designation from the CSSE, and is National President of the Clan Ross Association of Canada.

Don and his wife Caroline both hail from Cape Breton, N.S. They have 3 children and 6 grandchildren, who they enjoy spending as much time with as they can. They also enjoy their many family and friends scattered throughout, as well as relaxing at their summer cottage on the Bras d’Or lakes in Cape Breton.
 
Stewart Sampson
Stewart Sampson is the Director of Professional Services for Nova Scotia Labour and Advanced Education. As such, he manages the Occupational Health and Safety Program for a staff of over 500 people. Stewart has been in the Occupational Health and Safety field for over 30 years. Specializing in occupational hygiene, Stewart is a Registered Occupational Hygienist, Canadian Registered Safety Professional and a Professional Engineer. He is a member of both the CSSE and the President of the AIHA Atlantic Region.
 
Susan Sawatsky
Susan Sawatzky is an independent consultant specializing in Fatigue Management. She works with the University of New Brunswick instructing Fatigue Management and Psychological Health and Safety in their HSE Advanced Diploma Program. Susan speaks nationally on the topic of fatigue in the workplace and consults with a wide variety of industry groups to assist in finding appropriate organizational fatigue solutions. Recent industry experiences include drafting fatigue legislation currently being proposed for the 2015 Alberta OHS Code. Past experiences include assisting in policy development, including proposing and collaboratively drafting the 2013 Fatigue Guiding Principles Agreement, for the Canadian Oil and Gas Industry. Susan currently works with several industry clients including: utilities, municipalities, transportation, fisheries, oil and gas, manufacturing, service companies and more.
 
Amanda Silliker
Amanda Silliker is the Editor of Canadian Occupational Safety magazine, a Thomson Reuters business. Previously, she was Senior Editor with Canadian HR Reporter, also owned by Thomson Reuters. Amanda holds a Bachelor of Journalism, Highest Honours, from Carleton University in Ottawa.
 
Peter Strahlendorf
Dr. Peter Strahlendorf, B.Sc., LL.B., LL.M., BES, SJD, CRSP, CSP Dr. Strahlendorf is currently an Associate Professor in the School of Occupational and Public Health at Ryerson University in Toronto. He has been teaching at Ryerson since 1986. He has received awards for teaching in 2005 and 2010 for his courses at Ryerson. In 2011, he received an award from the Board for Canadian Registered Safety Professionals for pioneering post-secondary occupational health and safety education in Canada over the last 25 years. Peter graduated from Queen's University with biology and law degrees. He received his Master of Laws from the University of Toronto in 1987 on the subject of worker and community right to know about chemical hazards. He received his doctorate in law from the University of Toronto in 1991. Peter maintains a consulting practice in occupational health and safety. He has provided in-house training for thousands of supervisors, managers and committee members across Canada over the last twenty-five years. He is a frequent speaker at seminars and conferences. He has delivered a preparatory course for candidates for the Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) exam for over 20 years.
 
Nadine Wentzell
Nadine Wentzell is a pharmacist, consultant, author and speaker with over 25 years of experience in drug abuse, misuse and diversion. As a Narcotic Inspector with Health Canada she conducted investigations and regulatory monitoring, working across Canada. She has taught Drug Investigative Techniques at the Canadian Police College in Ottawa, and worked with various police forces across the country. Nadine has also been a guest lecturer with Dalhousie University’s health professional schools, including Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy, as well as a presenter with post-graduate education with Dalhousie Continuing Medical Education, Continuing Dental Education and Continuing Pharmacy Education. She was a founding member of Nova Scotia’s Prescription Monitoring Program and continues to advocate for responsible prescribing of narcotics and controlled drugs. Nadine is regular presenter at health, safety and wellness conferences and educational events. Her work has taken her across Canada, and includes a diverse client base of both unionized and non-unionized organizations, each with their unique cultures and work environments. Prevention, awareness, training and education are the cornerstones of Nadine’s work – always with a realistic and pro-active focus. Nadine provides practical solutions to address drug and alcohol use; the ultimate goal -> safe and healthy workplaces.
 
Al White
Al served for twenty six years as a military policeman and qualified criminal investigator with the Canadian Forces serving in Canada and Cyprus. Early in his career he attended an instructional techniques instructors course and has actively been instructing ever since. Four of these years he was employed as an instructor at the Canadian Forces Military Police Academy at CFB Borden Ontario. Al has been instructing for Safety Services for a number of years and some years ago developed the program “From the Schoolyard to the Workplace” and has presented it to both private and NS government departments
