John Landeryou - Focus on private providers, establishing possible remit of FE Guild, and general input to project strategy and direction

John is director of his own consultancy company specialising in strategy and quality in further and higher education and skills, working with organisations in the public and private sector. He works on a part time basis for AELP and is involved in a range of sector wide initiatives. He is also a member of the National Improvement Partnership Board. Immediately prior to this he was Director of Further Education in the Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) where he was responsible for advising ministers on further education and lifelong learning policy. Previously he was Director of Improvement in DIUS. During his earlier career he had extensive experience of inspection and quality improvement work, designing inspection regimes in the ALI and heading up Ofsted’s post-16 and learning and skills work. He has also held senior positions in education business partnerships, local authorities, and a Chamber of Commerce Training and Enterprise, having originally started out as a teacher. He currently chairs the governing body of a large further education college.

Stella Turner

Stella is responsible for keeping a ‘watching brief’ on matters related to qualifications and curriculum development. She represents AELP on groups such as the Skills Funding Agency’s Qualifications Approvals and Governance Group and the BIS Vocational Qualifications Forum plus various Awarding Organisation Consultative Committees. Since joining AELP Stella has managed a number of projects, including work related to the Qualification Credit Framework (QCF) Readiness Programme, Functional Skills Support, Unit Delivery Trials, the review of FE Teaching and Training Qualifications and the promotion of Higher Level Skills. More recently she has taken on responsibility for overseeing and managing work allocations within AELP’s delivery team. Stella has always worked in the education and training sector and has over 10 years experience of working for a work based learning provider. As a Senior Training Manager for a large training provider in Bristol, she was responsible for a team of ten, overseeing and contributing to the design and delivery of a range of both government funded and commercial programmes including IT courses, Apprenticeships and NVQs in a variety of occupational areas. Prior to joining AELP Stella worked for the Awarding Body OCR as a Customer Support Manager. This role involved working with local authorities, schools, colleges and training providers providing information and guidance on qualifications and government reforms.

Caroline Yarrow is a Partner at Bircham Dyson Bell LLP. Her practice covers all aspect of contentious and non-contentious Employment Law with a particular interest in equality and diversity issues and complex discrimination claims. Her non-contentious work includes drafting contracts of employment, staff handbooks and employment policies and procedures and advising on general employment issues, such as redundancies, restructuring, disciplinary matters and issues concerning employment status and continuity of employment. More recently, Caroline has given a large amount of TUPE related advice including on transfers arising as a consequence of the Government spending cuts.
