President's Global Seminar
 
Brian K. Blount

Brian is the president of Union Presbyterian Seminary (UPSem), with campuses in Richmond, VA and Charlotte, NC.  He is also Professor of New Testament Studies at UPSem.  In his research, writing, and teaching, he focuses primarily on the Gospel of Mark, the Book of Revelation, Cultural Hermeneutics, The Kingdom of God, and New Testament Ethics.  He has authored 6 books, co-authored 2, and edited multiple volumes focused on these New Testament subjects.  Prior to a career in theological education that has spanned almost 30 years, he was the pastor of Carver Memorial Presbyterian Church in Newport News, Virginia.  Along with his wife, Sharon, Brian has traveled extensively for the seminary throughout the U.S., Europe, Asia, and Africa.  He and Sharon led the UPSem travel seminar to Ghana in 2014, and recently visited Ethiopia, Kenya, and Mauritius on behalf of UPSem’s Global Mission Center.  He has lectured and preached in South Africa, Hungary, Korea, Mauritius, and Taiwan.  In 2011, he co-led and provided lectures for a church and seminary expedition to Turkey and Greece that visited the archeological city sites of the 7 Revelation churches, Patmos, Corinth, and Athens.  He relishes the opportunity to explore new horizons and discover the connections between Christianity and culture in diverse contexts and among diverse faiths. 

 

 
Sharon Blount

Sharon retired as a senior manager in the Internal Revenue Service after 31 years of federal service.  She currently resides in Richmond, Virginia with her husband Brian who is President and Professor of New Testament at Union Presbyterian Seminary.  A lifelong Presbyterian, Sharon has served as an elder at Witherspoon Street Presbyterian Church in Princeton, New Jersey and Second Presbyterian Church in Richmond, Virginia.  These days, much of her time is devoted to endeavors with Union Presbyterian Seminary, Second Presbyterian Church and The Presbyterian Outlook, where she serves as board chair.  Committee and board work, along with tutoring at a local elementary school keep her busy. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, is an avid reader and loves to travel both for the seminary and personally.  Seeing the global reach of the church, and Union Presbyterian Seminary in particular, has been a wonderful blessing.   She continually seeks out ways to incorporate service, creativity and a healthy lifestyle into retirement living.

 
Bunny Alexander and Lewis Galloway

Dr. Eleanor (Bunny) Alexander is a graduate of Queens College and Union Presbyterian Seminary (D.Min.). Dr. Lewis Galloway is a graduate of Davidson College and Union Presbyterian Seminary (D.Min; Th.M.). Lewis and Bunny met at Union Seminary and were married 1975. Together they attended the Protestant Faculty of Theology in Paris. This began their love for and appreciation of other cultures and traditions. As pastors in the PCUSA, they have served churches in North Carolina. In Norfolk, Virginia, Bunny completed her training as a Pastoral Counselor while Lewis served Royster Memorial Church. In Columbia, South Carolina, Bunny established the Columbia Pastoral Counseling Center, and Lewis served as Senior Pastor of Shandon Presbyterian Church. In Indianapolis, Lewis served as Senior Pastor of Second Presbyterian Church while Bunny continued her counseling ministry with CenterPoint Counseling Center. Together they have led a number of adult educational journeys with Seminars International to Greece, Israel, Palestine, Turkey, Italy and France. They are the parents of three grown children and have two grandchildren. They have recently moved to Black Mountain, North Carolina. Over the years, they have been involved in racial reconciliation ministries, social justice issues and homeless concerns. Currently, Bunny is serving in a prison ministry, and Lewis serves on the boards of Davidson College and Montreat Conference Center. He is a former trustee of Union Presbyterian Seminary.
