9.00am - 2.30pm | Meetings of Chairs of Academic Boards/Senates | National Convention Centre, Canberra |
All Chairs/Presidents and those directly interested in Academic Boards/Senates are invited to meet and discuss developments and issues in academic governance. In 2016 the satellite meeting will have a strong focus on academic integrity.
In collaboration with other interested groups and colleagues, the Chairs of Academic Boards and Senates (CABS) are building a sector-wide network to uphold high standards of academic integrity in the context of the challenge posed by the growth of technologically enabled forms of academic misconduct through the use of swap sites, essay mills, ghost writing services and new devices. The role of the network will be to educate, gather information, articulate shared values and develop common understanding between disciplines and institutions. It will share good practice, guide emergence of national standards and take nationally coordinated action. The intended outcome is a strong national assertion of values, common understanding and shared purpose between the nation’s academics and students and high sector-wide standards of integrity. To be effective into the future the network needs to engage strongly with academics and students across all higher education institutions and collaborate closely with executive colleagues across the sector.
