The Desmond Tutu Tutudesk Campaign: The Global Launch
Putting Education at the heart of Africa's development
Friday 27th September 2013, 08.15am - Mandarin Oriental, New York City
This Is Africa and Financial Times Live were proud to present the global launch of the Desmond Tutu Tutudesk Campaign.
The Campaign provides portable school desks, Tutudesks, to children in sub-Saharan Africa, where over 95 million school children do not have the benefit of a classroom desk. This shortage affects the development of literacy and overall academic performance. The Campaign’s vision is to provide 20 million desks to 20 million children by 2020.
The need to improve learning outcomes is key to Africa’s development. It has also been identified as a global development priority. Tutudesks are an effective solution in the drive to provide quality education to children across the continent.
The Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu and other leading figures discussed development, policy and business.
