Study Programmes (including Traineeships) Event

Workshops

One of the main objectives of study programmes is to improve young people’s employability skills. This workshop is designed to help providers achieve that objective, it will focus in particular on how additional content such as work-related learning, the development of commercial and enterprise skills and personal development programmes can be used to improve employability skills.

A workshop looking at the organisational and delivery implications of teaching Functional Skills and/or maths & English GCSEs within Study Programmes. It will include an overview of the GCSE accreditation process and the student journey through Functional Skills and/or GCSEs. During the workshop delegates will be able to view some of the GCSE specifications and consider how Functional Skills can be embedded within Study Programmes.

This workshop will give an insight into how a provider (Jobwise Training Ltd) has integrated work experience placements within their Traineeships/Study Programme.  Jobwise Training’s mission statement is ‘Developing a stronger workforce for London’s future’.  Their 3 year employer involvement strategy targets include 100% of individuals on their programmes to have a significant employer involvement within it.

The workshop will give an overview of how the work experience element has changed from that of the Foundation Learning Programme.  The workshop will look at what strategies can be adopted to engage with employers an encourage them to take on trainees.  The workshop will also look at how the Traineeship Programme is linked to Apprenticeships.  Participants will have the opportunity to share best practice and explore the strategies that other providers have utilised.

This workshop will showcase the on line resource, Implementing Study Programmes (including traineeships) that has recently been published by AELP (with support from the DfE). It will give an overview of the resource, explaining how it will help providers to develop their understanding of study programmes whilst providing an opportunity to learn from AELP members who have already had experience of delivering provision based on study programme principles. During the workshop delegates will be able to use the Study Programme Readiness Checklist to self-assess and review their own readiness to implement study programmes and/or traineeships and begin to develop an action plan to help them move forward.

This workshop from the event’s main sponsor, OCR, will provide you with an opportunity to hear about the Cambridge Traineeships pilot programme with the Kent Association of Training Organisations (KATO). OCR will share its experience of the pilot by explaining how it was built and revealing the lessons learnt from it. You’ll also have the opportunity to hear from some of the learners involved. There’ll also be a focus on how to implement learning programmes , including how best to embed English and maths, particularly if your learners aren’t yet ready for Functional Skills or GCSE assessment.
