Parking information - Participants will not be allowed to park in the spaces adjacent to the Medical Building. They will have to park on the street (if space is available) or park at SDMC parking structure and walk over to Viewridge. Cars will be towed. You need to allot enough time to park and walk to Viewridge Medical Office Building.

This one-day competency-based preceptor training program is designed to prepare the Kaiser Permanente registered nurse for role transition from staff nurse into a preceptor. The content focuses on the preceptors' role, responsibilities, rapport, and the integration of knowledge, skills and attitudes into practice. This course is offered to Kaiser Permanente RNs based on the recommendation and written approval of their managers.

Objectives:

At the completion of this program, the learner will be able to:

1. Describe the roles, functions and responsibilities of a preceptor.

2. Identify at least five characteristics of an ideal preceptor.

3. Apply adult learning principles and learning theory that best support the learner

4. Provide constructive evaluations on the preceptee’s performance.

5. Demonstrate effective methods of communicating feedback to precept..

6. Articulate approaches that enhance the transition of preceptee through stages of reality shock.   


Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 9723 for 7.8 contact hours. Participants must sign sign-in sheet, submit pre and post evaluation surveys to receive CEUs.
