AELP are campaigning to maintain Functional Skills as the best possible option for providers, learners and employers. However, if the planned government policy goes through it would be remiss of us not to explain the options and prepare you for GCSEs if you want to deliver them.

The Traineeship Funding Consultation published on Thursday, 19 June 2014 states that 'from September 2015 the new GCSEs in English and maths will be available for teaching. These qualifications will include a greater focus on the more applied aspects of English and maths, such as problem-solving, spelling and grammar. Providers are strongly encouraged, but not yet required, to consider how teaching towards these new qualifications will be incorporated in their courses in the future'. 

Consequently, AELP want to help providers understand the implications, prepare their staff and find an appropriate awarding organisation.

This event will help providers understand the implications of the policy shift towards GCSEs and away from Functional Skills. It will allow you to raise concerns for AELP to take forward and to understand what your organisation should be doing in preparation.
