She is dual qualified as a solicitor in both Scotland and England & Wales, and regularly advises on disputes in both jurisdictions and internationally.

Valerie is also a trained mediator and an approved Kelvin TOP-SET Senior Investigator in the Kelvin TOP-SET analysis system. She co-authored the Scottish chapter of the CMS Guide to Arbitration which was published in 2012.

James Downie is a partner in the Energy Team at Stronachs LLP. He is dual qualified in Scots and English law and spends approximately 80% of his time working for upstream oil and gas clients on a range of acquisitions and disposals, developments, products sales and decommissioning issues.

He is a member of the Oil & Gas UK Legal Issues Decommissioning Work Group which is developing a “LOGIC” form contract for the carrying out of decommissioning projects. He is also a member of the Law Society of Scotland Energy Policy Committee which responds to consultations in respect of proposed energy legislation and regulation.

He is recommended as an energy lawyer in the Legal 500 (2015 edition). He has contributed to various publications including the Technical and Legal Guide to the UK Oil & Gas Industry.

Greg's concentration over the past 10 years has been the drilling sector and he has significant in-house experience in this area including providing support in relation to turnkey drilling projects in the North Sea and West Africa. Greg has advised on turnkey drilling contract negotiations, as well as supporting the negotiation, management and administration of related service sector contracts.

Greg is qualified in both English and US law and a member of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators.

Clare is a partner and head of the oil and gas team at Brodies. She has over 15 years' experience in the oil and gas sector and has worked extensively in-house as well as in private practice. As well as her wealth of experience of the UKCS sector she spent time abroad working on gas and LNG projects in Indonesia and China, and also has experience in Norway and the Netherlands.

Clare has particular specialism in project development and transportation and processing agreements as well as broad experience in corporate/asset acquisitions and disposals and related diligence exercises, joint venture issues, licensing, farm-ins and production sharing contracts.

Clare is qualified in both English and Scottish law and is a Notary Public and a member of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators.

Alison is a partner in the Energy Team at HBJ Gateley and has significant experience in oil and gas work, having spent 17 years working as an in-house lawyer in the industry. She has negotiated high-value engineering, procurement, installation and construction contracts with numerous operators as well as service agreements and subcontracts at all levels of the supply chain within the upstream oil and gas industry. Alison is involved with industry body Oil & Gas UK and has held the position of both Vice-Chair and Chair of the Legal Issues Forum, as well as being involved in various standard contract work groups. In addition to her oil and gas experience, Alison has knowledge of collaborative working agreements such as joint ventures, consortium agreements and bidding agreements and has developed and delivered training programmes on compliance matters such as anti-trust and competition law, dawn raids, anti-bribery and corruption and facilitation payments, as well as bespoke risk management and contract law training programmes. Alison is a Notary Public and a member of the Law Society of Scotland. She is also an Honorary Lecturer at Aberdeen University, Faculty of Law.
