Observing and evaluating learning; how can this help to improve teaching and assessment to be of consistently high quality?

Overview:
This webinar will provide an overview of inspection findings about the use of observations of teaching, learning and assessment in improving the quality of teaching, learning and assessment. The purpose, scope and methods of evaluating observations of learning activities in work-based settings will be explored both from an inspector’s perspective and from a quality improvement activity standpoint. Examples of good practice will be provided along with consideration of the effectiveness of different approaches. Participants will be encouraged to reflect on the practice within their organisations and develop ways in which they can improve their way of working to support rapid and sustainable improvement.

Aim:
To increase participants' understanding of how observing learning can support improvement actions for teachers, trainers and assessors.

Objectives:
The  objectives of this webinar are to:
  • Reflect on and learn from inspection findings about the use of the observation of teaching, learning and assessment
  • Consider the purpose, value and scope of observation schemes
  • Identify good practice in using observations to aid improvement  
Expected Outcomes:
Participants will have an informed view of how they can use observations to improve the quality of their provision and will have considered a range of practical points related to implementing a scheme.

This webinar will be of interest to employer providers, independent learning providers and colleges with large work-based learning contracts in receipt of government funding.
