Information for Speakers

Thank you for your interest in speaking at the 2017 Innovative Learning Conference.

If you are interested in speaking at the conference, please email
ilc@nuevaschool.org. If you are a confirmed speaker, please find helpful information below.

Overview of Innovative Learning Conference
Every two years, educators and innovators from around the country convene at The Nueva School for the Innovative Learning Conference (ILC) to discuss and share ideas about many of the most challenging and critical issues facing education.

The conference is organized by The Nueva School and features lively discussion among internationally preeminent speakers, scholars, educators, parents, community members, and students. This year's topics can be found on the strands page. This year's schedules can be found on the schedule page.

Presentation and Session Guidelines
Speaker presentation times may be found on the schedule page. Most speakers attend the entire conference day as it is an excellent opportunity to hear, see, and network with other esteemed colleagues who are passionate about innovative education. In addition, after the day’s sessions, the conference has a closing reception until 7:00 pm in Nueva's Mansion Ballroom.
  • Normal session time will be one hour.
  • Please plan for a 45-minute presentation (unless discussed otherwise). The remaining time is for questions and answers.
  • Presentations that focus on the commercial intent of a product or service are not permitted.
  • Please check in 60 minutes prior to your session at the speaker registration desk, which will be at the Nueva School Administration offices.
  • If you make changes to your presentation after you submit it to us, please make sure to bring an updated version with you on your presentation day so our tech team can upload it.
Technology Information
Please email your tech requirements, presentations, and handouts to ilcspeakers@nuevaschool.org by Thursday, October 12, 2017. If you already submitted materials through the registration portal we have them. If you would like to make modifications, please email the updated copies to ilcspeakers@nuevaschool.org. To see what you have already submitted, please visit the registration page, select Modify Registration and use the email you used to register and your last name to log back in.

We would prefer that speakers bring their own laptops, preloaded with their presentations. Please note there are format differences between PowerPoint for Windows and PowerPoint for Mac that could adversely impact your presentation on a school-supplied laptop. On conference day, we encourage speakers to arrive at the Tech Tent as early as possible to ensure your presentation will run properly. Nueva’s Tech team will be onsite to ensure that your machine will work smoothly with our systems.

The following will be provided for you:
  • LCD projector with a male VGA connection (with an Apple mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter)
  • Projection surface
  • Microphone
  • Sound amplification for laptop (via headphone port)
Please plan on bringing these pieces of equipment, if needed:
  • Laptop power adapter and power cord
  • An adapter for your laptop’s video port adapter to VGA (especially, if you have an standard, mini, or micro HDMI video port)
  • Remote clicker (for advancing slides)
  • Laser pointer
The following are a sampling of items that may be provided if specifically requested in advance through the registration page:

Speakers' Reception
Speakers are also invited to a Speakers’ Reception on Thursday evening.
