With Every Heartbeat is Life:
How CHWs and Public Housing Authorities are Improving Heart Health

Community health workers (CHWs) are leading heart disease prevention efforts in public housing through a partnership between the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). From Boston to Charlotte to Denver, housing authorities are training CHWs to engage fellow residents in behavior change to improve their heart health. In the process, housing authorities are developing a CHW workforce whose effectiveness and reach are transforming approaches to reduce health disparities.
