In his presentation Don Smale will review developments in the global nickel, lead and zinc markets in 2010. He will consider prospective capacity, production and usage developments for 2011, and will present short term forecasts for supply and demand balances based on the inputs of the member countries of the Study Groups and the work of the statistical experts in the Groups. Key factors likely to impact on the future development of the global nickel, lead and zinc industries will be considered in some detail, and specific attention will be paid to the situation in the non-ferrous metals industry in Africa.

In his keynote PGM presentation, Stephen Forrest will review 2010, considering the dynamics which shaped the sector, and will offer commentary on global PGM supply and demand developments. Looking forward to 2011, the analysis will take into account the global outlook of existing shafts and decline systems, depletion, mix of ores mined – through an analysis of these factors a supply forecast will be given. Coverage of global demand will include a regional macroeconomic outlook of the major economies examining the threats and opportunities likely to impact platinum demand. SFA’s demand forecast will cover the main end use sectors, supported by a consensus price forecast for 2011.
