Lisbon

Lisbon is the second-oldest capital in Europe, after Athens, despite never officially being confirmed as the capital in any documentation. It is built across a series of hills, with white bleached limestone buildings, terracotta roofs and intimate alleyways. Situated on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, stretching along the northern bank of the river Tejo, Lisbon is the only European capital with sunsets over the sea, and has one of the world’s greatest natural harbours. Lisbon has experienced a renaissance in recent years, with a contemporary culture that is alive and thriving and making its mark in today's Europe.
From the World Heritage monuments and singular museum treasures, to international design and contemporary art, as well as treasures from when the East met West, to the ancient art of tile painting and gilding. The city has a reminiscence of the romantic decay of Venice, the exoticism of Naples or Istanbul, the laid-backness of Rome, echos of San Francisco, and Iberian spirit. Lisbon is recognised as a global city because of its importance in Finance, Commerce, Media, Entertainment, arts, international trade, education and tourism. With it’s growing financial sector and largest container port on Europe’s Atlantic coast, it is one of the major economic centres on the continent.
