 Introduction to Licensing Law

Experienced licensing practitioner Audrey Junner of Hill Brown Licensing will cover the following in her introduction to licensing law:

   - What is licensing law and why do we need it?
   - How does it affect you as an in-house lawyer?
   - Holding events in unlicensed premises, what you need to know about:
        - liquor licensing
        - public entertainment licensing
        - raffles/lotteries
        - theatres and cinemas
   - Lending on licensed businesses:
        - common pitfalls
        - what you can do to protect your employer's position 
   - Some tales from the trenches
   - What changes are on the horizon?

Learning outcomes will include:

   - Appreciation of the main principals of the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005
     and associated legislation
   - Gaining knowledge of the licensing objectives and the licensing system
   - Ability to identify scenarios where licensing has to be considered in an
     in-house context (particularly in relation to events and entertainment)
   - Understanding the common pitfalls to avoid in lending on a licensed business
   - Understanding of current issues and challenges relating to operating a
     licensed premises
   - Understanding of what the future holds for licensees and the law
