The Structure

The April National Leaders’ Forum is a one-day event, with presentations from 9am through to 5.00pm. Registrations will open at 8.15am.
- A Special General Meeting will be held at from 5.30pm to 6pm.
- The Forum Networking Reception will be held from 6pm to 7pm.
Overview* - 18 April 2013
This Leaders’ Forum comes at an interesting time for the sector. The new ESS contract will have been in place for six weeks, making it an ideal time to get together as a sector and discuss changes to the program - including the new performance framework.
Five months later: Reflections on the Employment Support Service transition 2012 – 2013
Stephen Moore, Group Manager at DEEWR, will take us through the lessons learned over the recent DES-ESS transition. This session explores the different approach necessary for disability employment and provides insight into how the transition objectives have been met.
Building Leadership and Management Capability
Disability Employment Australia and the SSMI Group have allied to develop the leadership and management capability of the DES workforce. Michael Magelakis, Director at SSMI Group, will provide an overview of our capability development strategy to assist DES providers to further enhance their strategic and operational performance.
Creating demand for DES candidates and services: The new look NDRC
The NDRC is adapting to industry feedback and will no longer fulfil a recruitment function. Lucy Macali, NDRC Manager at WorkFocus Australia, will walk delegates through the key changes and sets the stage for collaboration and meeting the recruitment needs of large employers.
What is on the horizon for 2013?
Lis Kelly will detail the program assurance priority areas for 2013.
Ongoing Support: The cornerstone of DES? An interactive Q&A-style panel session
Ongoing Support is inherently important to DES. This interactive panel discussion will explore the nature of Ongoing Support as a concept, as well as its operation within the DES framework. We will hear from employers, assessors from the National Panel of Assessors, and providers with both high and low usage of Ongoing Support.
Keryl Neville, CEO of LEAD Employment will facilitate the session, with Scott McLennan, VOICE Psychologists and Allied Professionals; John White, Link Personnel; Lis Kelly, DEEWR; and Kath Erwin, Complete Wiring Harnesses, as panel members.
An overview of the new Disability Service Standards
The Disability Service Standards have been revised to reflect contemporary stakeholder expectations. Anthony Bartolo from FaHCSIA will guide delegates through the key changes and will sketch out an implementation timeframe and the implications for DES providers.
Remote Jobs and Communities Program- An Overview
Jennifer Taylor, Deputy Secretary at DEEWR, will outline the performance and quality frameworks underpinning the imminent Remote Jobs and Communities Program.
Delegate Address
Lynette May, CEO of Disability Employment Australia, will address delegates and touch on a number of topical issues for the sector at the present point in time.
We are looking forward to the chance to regroup and compare notes after what has been a period of significant change for the sector in 2012/13, and to embark together on the next phase in the journey of disability employment in Australia.
