There will be two members of the Board at each session. The intention is to field a lay member and a member of the judiciary and where possible there will be ample opportunity for questions.
The information seminars will take place in June 2016 in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen, to give an overview of the Board's work and an insight into the judicial appointments process and the role of the new judicial tier of Summary Sheriff.
Each seminar will run from 6.00 to 7.00pm, with refreshments from 5.30pm.
The seminars are free and are aimed primarily at those who are interested in becoming Summary Sheriffs at some point in their career. However they are also open to any member of the legal profession who is interested in learning more about the entire judicial appointments process. The sessions will explain how the Board fulfils its obligations under the Judiciary and Courts (Scotland) Act 2008 [as amended by the Courts Reform (Scotland) Act 2014] and how to go about applying for judicial office.
Please note: All of our CPD is verifiable. However, for Trainees this seminar will count towards your 20 hours of non-authorised TCPD - it WILL NOT count towards the required 40 hours of authorised TCPD. For authorised TCPD, please click here.
