Professor Bill Buchanan [More Info]

Edinburgh Napier University
Bill Buchanan is a Professor in the School of Computing at Edinburgh Napier University, and a Fellow of the BCS and the IET. He currently leads the Centre for Distributed Computing, Networks, and Security, and works in the areas of security, Cloud Security, Web-based infrastructures, e-Crime, cryptography, triage, intrusion detection systems, digital forensics, mobile computing, agent-based systems, and security risk.

Bill has one of the most extensive academic sites in the World, and is involved in many areas of novel research and teaching in computing. He has published over 27 academic books, and over 200 academic research papers, along with several awards for excellence in knowledge transfer and for teaching

 Bill regularly appears on TV and radio related to computer, and has given evidence to the Justice Committee at the Scottish Parliament, along with being part of the BBC Scottish Independence Team of Experts (specialty: Cyber Security). This includes appearances on Newsnight Scotland, Good Morning Scotland, and Radio 5 Newsdrive, and was named as one of the Top 100 people for Technology in Scotland for the last two years.

James Hepburn is an ex-researcher of Information security risk in Strathclyde University and the Founder of Innovate:Ignite a company focused on secure smart home controller hub hardware. He is a Certified Ethical Hacker and experienced penetration tester working in the fields of Banking, Finance and Military. His work is focused specifically on Social Engineering and creating unique penetration tests looking at the gaps current tests overlook.  

James is the current author of the website Anonsecure.com, an information hotspot of all areas on Anonymity and information security. Specifically focused on an European viewpoint of information security. 

 
Mr Iain Mitchell [More Info]
QC

Iain G. Mitchell QC is a member of both the Scottish and English Bars, being ranked in the Chambers Directory and the Legal 500 for IT Law, IP Law, Public Procurement and Commercial Litigation.

His wide civil practice extends to courts at all levels in both jurisdictions, with over 60 reported cases in Scotland alone. He is involved in litigation in both jurisdictions in relation to mis-selling of Interest Rate Swaps and other CFIs and gave evidence to the Parliamentary Commission on Banking Standards. He is UK representative on the IT Committee of the CCBE, a member of the IT Panel of the Bar Council of England & Wales, Chairman of the Scottish Society for Computers and Law and an Honorary Lecturer in Information, Telecommunications and Media Law at Münster University. He represents the CCBE on a panel of experts advising the European Commission on Cloud Computing and is heading an internal CCBE working party on governmental access to lawyers' data in the Cloud.

He is Joint Editor of the International Free and Open Source Law Review, and has contributed chapters to (amongst others) Electronic Evidence (Butterworths) and Free and Open Source Software: Policy, Law and Practice (Oxford University Press).

 
Mr Tim Musson [More Info]

For many years Tim Musson was a lecturer in the School of Computing at one of Scotland’s leading new universities. In 2009 he graduated with a Master of Laws degree from the University of Strathclyde and left to set up his business, Computer Law Training, specialising in Data Protection and Information Security.

In this business Tim’s services include training in Data Protection and Information Security, support for Data Protection compliance and Information Security (audits, procedures, policies, etc) and an outsourced Data Protection Officer Service. A growing part of his business is the provision of CPD training in these areas for solicitors and other professionals.

He is currently Convenor of the Law Society of Scotland’s Privacy Law Committee.
