CAPA Outlook @ ITB ASIA

As part of ITB Asia CAPA will host an industry briefing on the aviation outlook for the Asia Pacific region.

Who should attend?
Airlines, airports, industry suppliers, technology providers and government regulatory authorities in Asia Pacific.

Session overview

Aviation Innovation and Market Disruption

Asia Pacific has been a leader in global aviation innovation over the past decade.

Over that short period, the explosion in LCC operations - which now account for almost two thirds of the seats in Southeast Asia and India and are growing fast in North Asia - has transformed the nature of airline operations and the shape of international regulation.

The evolution of airline “groups” around full service airlines, and the spread of cross-border joint ventures, are fundamental shifts.

They both reflect the nature of demand in the new Asian marketplace and help reshape it.

Add to that:

  • The formal liberalisation occurring under the framework of the ASEAN open skies agreements;

  • China’s emerging role as a major regional player, as it promotes home-grown LCCs;

  • The proliferation of long-haul low cost airlines, equipped increasingly with the technologically advanced 787s, A350s and A330-neos;

  • A massive order book for Asia Pacific airlines; and

  • Rapid changes in distribution needs and technology;

… and all the seeds are there for an industry and regulatory revolution.

Another description of what is occurring is market disruption.

While this is exciting and attractive for consumers, it is also adding complexity to all stakeholders in the industry. They must also adapt to accommodate the changing needs of this dynamic airline marketplace.

In this session, CAPA will provide a platform for discussion by giving a high level overview of industry developments, including:

  • CAPA’s financial and traffic forecast for the global airline industry, with a focus on Asia; and
  • CAPA’s industry strategic outlook, the future of airline business models, hybrids and LCCs.
