The IPM Annual Conference and Exhibition takes place this year at Sun City from 1-4 November. The event has been running since 1956 and has consistently attracted over 500 delegates. In 2008, just preceding the world economic crisis, attendance figures boomed at 1100, including exhibitors and speakers. In 2009, despite tough trading conditions and general trend for events of this size to be cancelled, IPM still managed to run a successful event. In 2014, numbers sat at a steady 900, a sign that our Convention is offering value to those who are present.

Human Resources Professionals, business leaders, suppliers and key influencers come together from private and public sectors to explore topical issues and to seek solutions to business challenges. The event offers unrivalled networking opportunities as delegates, exhibitors, speakers and sponsors engage during both the formal and the social programme in the beautiful surrounds of the North West Province, at the largest conferencing venue in South Africa, Sun City.

This year, IPM celebrates its 70th Anniversary, and the event is being designed to celebrate achievements and to exceed expectations. The formal, informal and social programmes are being revamped, with more sessions and a diversity of options to choose from. We will isolate key trends that will shape our future, understand very clearly where HR will deliver value, and provide a thinking and testing ground to explore what that looks like in practice.

The focus of the Convention is:

“HR DELIVERING INNOVATION AND EXCELLENCE: THE NEXT 70 YEARS OF THOUGHT LEADERSHIP” Driving HR’s impact into the Future

The sub-themes, which will guide all of the Convention sessions, are:

·         Emerging Trends impacting the organizational landscape

·         The Implication for Business and HR’s value proposition

·         Good Practice HR

The IPM has and continues to play a key role in professionalizing and credentialing HR within South Africa and on the wider continent. The Convention and Exhibition provides a unique opportunity to up your game in the People Management and Development space. The Convention and its sessions clarify that HR must be able to lead the business through its knowledge and expertise. Continuing Professional Development Points

Did you know that attending the IPM Convention counts towards your Continuing Professional Development?

The IPM is a SAQA recognised Professional Body. That means that we are able to offer Professional Membership to our members. Once you meet the criteria for Professional Membership, you are entitled to use Professional Designations after your name, which signals to industry that you are a Professional in HR.

In order to preserve your professional membership status, you must agree to continually update your knowledge and skills in HR. This is called Continuing Professional Development (CPD). A range of activities count towards CPD and you must obtain a minimum of 12 points across a range of development activities in each membership year. You can view the full policy here (add link to the policy on the website).

How are points awarded for attending the Convention?

Each half-day of Convention provides one CPD point. You can claim a total of 2 points per day if you attend sessions in the morning and in the afternoon. You are entitled to claim up to 5 points for attendance across the two and a half days of Convention.

A CPD log is provided for the purpose of recording your CPD. You should note the days you attended Convention sessions on your log. As it is not possible for us to verify the sessions you have attended, you may wish to note some key insights from convention on your reflection notes.

Submitting your log to us is not mandatory. However we are mandated by SAQA to enforce a CPD policy and we will randomly sample the logs of professional members to assess their CPD activity. We may contact you to ask you to submit a completed log and to provide evidence of your learning.

If we are unable to assess learning from your log, we may call you to discuss your activities. We will provide you with a grace time to complete your log if it is not up to date, and we can assist you with guidance on completing the log if you wish. We are here to help you.

Further details are available under the CPD section of the IPM Website.

Enjoy the Convention – be inspired – learn – grow!
