Panel with Q&A: Spotlight on Emerging Markets
Growth rates in emerging markets have defied the global trend, with investors attracted by a fertile investment climate and much improved levels of political and corporate stability. The future certainly looks bright for EM markets but what are the core challenges and opportunities which investors must take into account if they want to minimize risk exposure and maximize returns?

  • Growth prospects in EM fixed income markets
  • The migration of investors from west to east
  • Interest rates, credit and currency trends
  • Regional focus - which countries offer the best investment potential?

Donald Amstad, Asian Fixed Income Specialist, Aberdeen Asset Management
Gustavo Cano, Independent Advisor
Yadong Luo, Emery M. Findley Distinguished Chair and Professor of Management, University of Miami

Moderated by:
Rita Raagas De Ramos, Managing Editor, Ignites Asia – Financial Times Group

3:15 pm Keynote Interview with Q&A: Time to Broaden Horizons?
EM markets have done well to shake off their reputation of being a risk-heavy investment destination, and regional growth is an attractive proposition at a time when low interest rates and low yields are making for a challenging global macroeconomic environment. As investors increasingly look further afield in their efforts to improve returns, it would appear that so-called 'home bias' may be easing, but is this a temporary reaction or indicative of longer term trends? Are US investors sufficiently outward-looking, and can they afford not to be?

In Conversation: Corporate Governance - The Key to Investing with Confidence in Emerging Markets
One of the core drivers behind rising levels of investor confidence in emerging markets is the fact that risk management frameworks and corporate governance have significantly improved. Investors no longer feel that emerging markets constitute a risky component of their portfolios, so how can corporate governance continue to improve, and what do investors still need to remain cautious of?

  • Role reversal: Comparisons and contrasts between EM and Western European markets - stability, liquidity, opportunity
  • Best strategies for minimizing currency risk exposure
  • What more can EM markets do to improve corporate governance?
  • The significance of thorough research and detailed local knowledge
