Owen Walker, Managing Editor, Ignites
Owen Walker is Managing Editor of Ignites. He previously worked at a number of titles within the Financial Times's asset management division in London, covering institutional and retail pensions and investments. Mr Walker holds a post-graduate diploma in newspaper journalism from Cardiff University.
Martin Connaghan, Senior Investment Manager, Global Equity team, Aberdeen Asset Management
Martin Connaghan is a Senior Investment Manager on Aberdeen Asset Management’s Global Equity team. Mr Connaghan joined Aberdeen in 2001, via the acquisition of Murray Johnstone. He has held a number of roles including trader and Sustainable and Responsible Investment analyst on the Global Equity team. He also spent two years as a Portfolio Analyst on the Fixed Income team in London.
Avanidhar Subrahmanyam, Goldyne and Irwin Hearsh Chair in Money and Banking, Anderson School, UCLA
Avanidhar Subrahmanyam ("Subra") is a Professor of Finance and the Goldyne and Irwin Hearsh Chair in Money and Banking at UCLA’s Anderson School. Professor Subrahmanyam has received numerous awards for his research in behavioral finance in the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Western Finance Association meetings, and the Association for Investment Management Research, and has been nominated several times for the best paper at the Journal of Finance. He is among the five most-cited scholars in his research cohort (those receiving first-time finance-related positions from 1990 onwards). He has served as a founding Co-editor of the Journal of Financial Markets, and a past Associate Editor of the Journal of Finance, and the Review of Financial Studies. He has served as a consultant to several organizations such as the NASDAQ Stock Exchange, the National Stock Exchange in Mumbai, India, Irwin/McGraw-Hill, and Research Affiliates, Inc., Pasadena. He received his PhD in Finance from the Anderson School, and was Assistant Professor at Columbia University from 1990 to 1993.
Robert Dekle, Professor of Economics, University of Southern California
Robert Dekle is a Professor of Economics at the University of Southern California (USC). Prior to joining USC, Professor Dekle served as a Staff Economist at the International Monetary Fund from September 1995 to August 1998. He joined the USC faculty in September 1998 as Assistant Professor of Economics, and was the Chairman of the Department of Economics from 2003 to 2006. Professor Dekle specializes in Open Economy Macroeconomics/International Finance, and the East Asian economies, especially that of Japan.
Jonathan Foster, President and CEO, Angeles Wealth Management
Jonathan R. Foster has over 25 years’ experience in wealth management as a client advisor and in senior management positions, and is currently President and CEO of Angeles Wealth Management LLC in Santa Monica. The firm is the private client subsidiary of Angeles Investment Advisors, an institutional investment advisory firm with over $40 billion in client assets under advisement. From 2009 to 2011, prior to co-founding Angeles Wealth, Mr Foster was President of two related companies, Carson Wealth Management Group, one of the nation’s premier full-service wealth management firms, and Peak Advisor Alliance, the largest independent coaching and consulting service focused on financial advisors. From 2007 and 2009, Mr Foster spearheaded a wealth management acquisition and management strategy in partnership with ACI Capital, a New York City private equity company. From 1995 and 2007, he was the CEO of Howard Capital Management, and upon its acquisition by ETrade Financial in 2005, he also assumed the role of Head of Wealth Management, and later VP - Head of Advisor M&A and Strategy for ETrade Financial. Mr Foster received an MBA in Finance from Northeastern University, and a BA in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania.
Nicholas Yeo, Director and Head of China/Hong Kong Equities, Aberdeen Asset Management
Nicholas Yeo is the Head of the China/Hong Kong Equities team at Aberdeen Asset Management. He joined Aberdeen in 2000 via the acquisition of Murray Johnstone. He was seconded to the London Global Emerging Market team for two years, covering EMEA and Latin American companies, before returning to the Asian Equities team in Singapore in 2004. In 2007, he transferred to Hong Kong to lead a team of four that focuses on Chinese equities research. Mr Yeo graduated with a BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance from the University of Manchester and an MSc in Financial Mathematics from Warwick Business School. He is a CFA Charterholder.
Nancy Weisel, Senior Regional Sales Manager, Aberdeen Asset Management
Nancy Weisel is a Senior Regional Sales Manager - Wealth Management, Americas with Aberdeen Asset Management and is responsible for new business development and diversified financial service firm relationships in the Southwest Region. She joined the firm in 2011 bringing with her over 20 years of industry experience. Previously, she was with Wells Fargo Advisors as SVP Advisory Consultant, Neuberger Berman as VP Business Development Southern California, and Merrill Lynch Asset Management as Business Development VP first in Dallas and then in Southern California. She earned a BA from Boston University and an MBA from Pace University in New York. Ms Weisel holds Series 6, 7, 8, 63, and 65 licenses and is an active member of IMCA through which she earned her CIMA designation from the Wharton School.
