Procurement

In case you haven’t seen it, Paul Shelter from the Australian Government Digital Transformation agency recently published a post on his experience of transformation in Australia.
Paul and his team worked with departments, agencies and state governments to deliver six exemplar services – from medical appointments, to goods imports. No easy feat by anyone’s standards.
It gave a great insight to the experience and there were plenty of lessons for procurement transformation to be had.
These were some of the key points he’s learned from the experience:
- Let the problems choose you, not the other way round
- Keep focused on the end outcomes
- Blockers come in the form of cultural, structural and skills-based
- Complexity is an excuse
- Whilst enthusiasm is there, there are still issues with skill gaps
“Government might think it's huge, but its daily transaction volume is equivalent to just a few minutes of Twitter - or even less on the NASDAQ.”
