WESTDEF 2015 July 5-7 in Calgary
Planning is underway for this year's WestDef:
Extending the Life of mission critical, expensive defence equipment through Technology Insertion, one of the critical elements of a sound Sustainment Policy.
As in previous years, this conference will focus on Sustainment, in other words how do we ensure that we are prepared to support military equipment through to the End of Life Expectancy (ELE) - and beyond. The right resources (skill sets are critical), the right contracts (Performance Based Logistics (PBL) has become the norm. We will explore the relationships between Industry and Government required to meet the Operational Needs of the Warfighter. The unsung hero of any In-Service Support Program has been Technology Insertion (TI) at the critical juncture. The names given are many: Upgrade (LAV Up), Modernization (HCM), Incremental Modernization Project (AIMP), Mid-Life Update, Limited Life Extension (GLLE), Engineering Change Proposal.
The reasons are threefold;
- Reliability Enhancements (driven often by obsolescence),
- Performance Enhancements (keeping abreast or ahead of of the potential enemy) and
- Life Extensions (replacement slippages).
Presentations and photos from 2014 can be found on the WCDIA site.
