Matt Aslett, Analyst, The 451 Group
Matthew covers data management software for The 451 Group, including relational and nonrelational databases, data warehousing and event processing. Matthew is also an expert in open source software and contributes regularly to reports produced through the 451 Commercial Adoption of Open Source (CAOS) Research Service, as well as to the 451 CAOS Theory blog. Prior to joining The 451 Group, Matthew was Deputy Editor of monthly magazine Computer Business Review and ComputerWire's daily news service. There he covered Linux and open source software and launched the successful Open Source Weblog in January 2006. Matthew started in IT journalism in 1997 as a staff writer with monthly magazine Unix and NT News, where he became editor in 2000. He has also contributed to a number of other publications, including Unigram/X, IBM System User and JavaVision. Matthew holds a BA in Multimedia Journalism from Bournemouth University in the UK.

Larry Augustin, CEO, SugarCRM
Larry Augustin is an angel investor and advisor to early stage technology companies. He currently serves on the Boards of Directors of Appcelerator, Compiere, DeviceVM, DotNetNuke, Fonality, Hyperic, Medsphere, Pentaho and SugarCRM. One of the group who coined the term "Open Source", he has written and spoken extensively on Open Source worldwide. Worth Magazine named him to their list of the Top 50 CEOs in 2000. From 2002 to 2004 he was a Venture Partner at Azure Capital Partners. In 1993 he founded VA Linux (now SourceForge, NASDAQ:LNUX) serving as CEO until August 2002. While CEO he launched SourceForge.net and led the company through an IPO in December 1999.

Jono Bacon is the Ubuntu Community Manager and a leader author and speaker on community management, governance and growth. He wrote The Art Of Community by O'Reilly and is the founder of the annual Community Leadership Summit. He co-founded the award-winning LugRadio and Shot Of Jaq podcasts, is a regular presenter on FLOSSWeekly, has written three other books and has written for over 15 magazines. Virginia Tsai Badenhope, Associate General Counsel, BigFix
Virginia Badenhope just transitioned from commerical practice to corporate practice, signing on last fall as Associate General Counsel for BigFix, a medium-sized software company. Previously, she was a Senior Associate with Smithline Jha LLP for five years. She is also is a former Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati corporate and securities associate. Working in WSGR's Palo Alto, CA office, Virginia helped guide clients through mergers & acquisitions, private and public financings and regulatory compliance with the SEC and NASDAQ. After WSGR, Virginia served as corporate counsel with VERITAS Software Corporation (later merged with Symantec Corp.) in Mountain View, CA, on a full-time, in-house contract basis. Virginia began her legal career as an associate with Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo in Boston, MA.

Virginia received a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Stanford University and a JD from Boston College Law School. Virginia presented on legal issues in open source at LinuxWorld in 2007 and has been a guest lecturer at the University of San Francisco School of Law. Virginia is admitted to practice in California and Massachusetts.

Ed Boyajian, President and Chief Executive Officer, Enterprise DB
Before joining EnterpriseDB, Ed spent six years at Red Hat®, Inc., the world's leading open source solutions provider, most recently serving as vice president and general manager of North America. Before that, he was vice president of Red Hat's global OEM business, responsible for all partnerships, including HP®, IBM®, and Dell®. During his time at Red Hat, Ed was instrumental in developing the foundational methods for selling open source software into the enterprise.

Prior to Red Hat, Ed held executive sales and marketing positions at ArsDigita, an early leader in open source software for building database-backed community websites (acquired by Red Hat) and ServiceSoft (now Kana). Ed is a former U.S. Army Captain, and earned his MBA from Harvard Business School and his undergraduate degree from Boston University.

Erica Brescia, CEO, BitRock
Erica Brescia is the CEO of BitRock, the leader in multiplatform software deployment automation. Through the BitNami.org portal it has simplified native, virtual and cloud installations of popular open source software. Since joining the company in early 2005, Erica has been instrumental in positioning BitRock at the forefront of the software packaging and deployment space and earning the business of the leading commercial open source vendors. Prior to joining BitRock, Erica managed several sales teams for T-Mobile and served as a liaison to the mobile enthusiast community. In the past she held positions as an Analyst at Oakwood Worldwide and as a consultant with Chekiang First Bank in Hong Kong, where she helped to plan the launch of its internet banking service. Dries Buytaert, CTO & Co-Founder, Acquia
Dries Buytaert is the original creator and project lead for the Drupal open source web publishing and collaboration platform. Buytaert is also co-founder and chief technology officer of Acquia, a venture-backed software company that offers products and services for Drupal.  A native of Belgium, Buytaert holds a PhD in computer science and engineering from Ghent University and a Licentiate Computer Science (MsC) from the University of Antwerp. In 2008, Buytaert was elected Young Entrepreneurs of Tech by BusinessWeek as well as MIT TR 35 Young Innovator.

Wim Coekaerts, Vice President, Linux and Virtualization Engineering, Oracle
Wim Coekaerts is the Vice President of Linux Engineering for Oracle Corporation, where he leads the team responsible for both Oracle VM server virtualization and Oracle Unbreakable Linux support. Mr. Coekaerts joined Oracle Belgium in 1995 as a technical engineer for Oracle Support Services. In 1997, he moved to Oracle headquarters in Redwood Shores, California where he held various positions in program management for Oracle's worldwide solutions support group. Two years later he began work on the prototype of Oracle Database Appliance, focused on the tight integration of the database with operating system such as Solaris and Linux.

Peter Coffee, Director Platform Research, Salesforce.com
Peter Coffee, Director of Platform Research, joined salesforce.com in January of 2007, after spending 18 years as an analyst and columnist at the enterprise technology journal eWEEK (including time under its former title PC Week). Based in the Los Angeles area, he currently works with corporate and commercial application developers to build a community based on Force.com: the salesforce.com Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS).

Peter has 27 years' experience in guiding the adoption and management of innovative information technologies and practices as a developer, consultant, educator, and internationally published author. Peter was previously the first manager of PC planning at The Aerospace Corporation, where he also worked in space systems project management and in space-asset applications of artificial intelligence techniques. Before that, he was a Senior Engineer working in arctic project planning, chemical facility construction management, and alternative-fuels engineering for several divisions of Exxon Corporation.

He holds an engineering degree from MIT and an MBA from Pepperdine University, where he also served as a faculty member for the core curriculum in IT management; he has held other faculty appointments in computer science (artificial intelligence) at UCLA and in business analytics at Chapman College. He is the author of two books, How To Program Java and Peter Coffee Teaches PCs.

Catalin Cosovanu is an associate in the technology transactions practice of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in Palo Alto. Andrew Cotter, CIO, Somerset Capital
Andrew Cotter joined Somerset in 2002 and is responsible for information technology operations.  He establishes, plans and administers the overall policies and goals for the information technology department as well as helps business operations utilize information systems to improve efficiency.

Prior to joining Somerset, Mr. Cotter owned a full service technology services organization, distinguishing itself through a unique mix of hardware, software, networking and internet skills with customers ranging from small architectural firms, medium size capital markets organizations, medical and microelectronics firms to non-profit organizations.

Mr. Cotter earned his bachelor of fine arts in architectural studies and design from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1998.

Justin Erenkantz, President, Apache Software Foundation
Justin R. Erenkrantz is currently President of The Apache Software Foundation. He is also CTO of Project WBS and received his PhD from the University of California, Irvine.  He has been a long-time contributor to the Apache HTTP Server, Subversion, APR, Serf, mod_mbox, and flood.

Peter Fenton, General Partner, Benchmark
Peter Fenton, General Partner, joined Benchmark Capital in 2006 after spending seven years as a partner with Accel Partners, where his investment interests included software, digital media and technology enabled services.
 
Prior to joining the venture capital community, he spent several years working with Silicon Valley software and high-technology companies as an entrepreneur and strategy consultant. He was an early employee at Virage, a multimedia information retrieval company that went public on the NASDAQ in 2000. Peter also worked as a management consultant at Bain & Company in San Francisco, where he advised high-technology businesses in Silicon Valley on their product and business strategies.

Peter received an MBA from Stanford Business School, Arjay Miller Scholar and a BA from Stanford University, Phi Beta Kappa.

Andy Fletcher, First Data, US Infrastructure Architecture Team
Andy Flethcher has been working at First Data the last eleven years in the Hunt Valley, Maryland office. Andy, as a Director, managed software engineers and system administrators in the configuration management and change deployment arena for both distributed systems and mainframe systems. Over the last two years, Andy has been a member of the Global Infrastructure Architecture & Governance team. In this role, he worked on refining and formalizing First Data’s open source policy.  Currently, Andy manages the open source governance process at First Data utilizing the OpenLogic OLEX application.

Jurgen Geck, CTO, Open-Xchange
Jurgen Geck is responsible for continued development and communication of the company's technology strategies. He brings a distinguished background in open source and technology management to Open-Xchange.

Before Jurgen joined Open-Xchange, he spent 10 years with Suse Linux as Vice president Technology Partners and CTO. He built strong alliances with AMD, Fujitsu-Siemens-Computers, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Intel, Oracle and SAP and introduced in 2002 Suse's Technology Partner Program to provide a scalable offering for all Suse partners.

As CTO, Jurgen was instrumental in designing Suse's flagship product, Suse Linux Enterprise Server and its maintenance model, enabling the first enterprise Linux offering in the market. Jurgen is also one of the founders of Eclipse.org. Jurgen holds a masters degree in production engineering from the University of Erlangen, Germany.

Timothy M. Golden, Senior Vice President, Bank of America
Tim Golden has over 20 years of IT management experience designing and implementing major infrastructure projects, both as a consultant working for IBM and currently as a senior vice president at Bank of America. His technical background ranges from software development to data center operations. In his present role as the Director of Infrastructure & Platform Product Management, Tim works extensively with Linux and other open source software technologies and has led several enterprise efforts including the development of Open Source stack architectures, the creation of an in-house Open Source software management and reuse portal, and the enterprise deployment of over 350 Open Source development tools, infrastructure applications, management frameworks, automation facilities and business software applications.

Tim has a bachelor's degree in business management from St. Mary's College located in Moraga, CA.  He is a board member and customer advisor to several Open Source software companies and performs Open Source business consulting engagements for select clients.

Brian Goldfarb, Lead Product Manager, Web Platform and Tools, Microsoft
Brian Goldfarb is the Director of Product Management for Developer Platforms at Microsoft. Brian and his team are focused on product planning, business strategy and global marketing for the platforms that developers and designers use for building the next generation of applications for Windows, the Web and devices including Silverlight, .NET, IIS and more. The platforms team also manages vertical efforts in the Media, Advertising and Enterprise space as it relates to our UX technologies like Silverlight and WPF. Kamal Hassin is Director of Technology and Product Management at Protecode where he is responsible for current and future product portfolio capabilities. For several years, he has worked extensively in the space of software licensing and IP management to understand the technical, business, and legal drivers of open source. Kamal has become an expert in clean IP through his work with academics, lawyers, and software enterprises around the world. Paula Hunter, Executive Director, CodePlex Foundation
Paula Hunter brings a compelling combination of industry insight, executive-level business savvy and experience working with not-for-profits to the position of Executive Director. Previously Hunter served as Director of Operations for SEMPO, the Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization, a non-profit professional association working to increase awareness and promote the value of Search Engine Marketing worldwide. Prior to SEMPO, Hunter was director of worldwide marketing and business development for the Open Source Development Labs, where she was instrumental in driving membership growth of industry advocacy group and lead initiatives to increase industry awareness and engage large enterprise IT organizations with OSDL programs. Previously, Hunter was general manager of UnitedLinux, a joint venture formed to create a unified Linux offering. She began her career at Digital Equipment Corporation, where she managed marketing programs for DEC's UNIX Workstation and PC product lines. Hunter received a BS in Computer Information Systems from Bentley University.

Peter Jackson, President and Chief Executive Officer,
GroundWork Open Source

Peter Jackson has a knack for turning fledgling companies instilled with great business model into very profitable market leaders. He has accomplished this several times over during the last 20 years. Known as a mature market disruptor, Peter finds the one thing makes a big difference to the customer and makes that the company's core focus.

Peter joined GroundWork Open Source in January of 2009 because he understood the company's value based on the market potential and already proven disruptive model. GroundWork's foundation, built on it's unique open source project amalgamation strategy and business model matched Peter's profile of a company poised to become the next market leader in an ever-commoditizing IT management sector. Lastly, he was excited about the employee culture and strong customer base plus the great experiences and active involvement that the cofounders contributed to the business.

He's been the chairman, CEO and president of Intraware Inc., the premier provider of on-demand delivery solution since 1996. Keynote Intraware customers included IBM, Adobe, AutoDesk and EMC. Jackson took Intraware public, undergone private funding rounds, grew the revenue to $100MM in sales and services and eventually sold Intraware in January 2009.

Previous to Intraware, Peter was the president and CEO of Dataflex, Inc — a full service systems integrator who had revenues over $400MM and lead the sale to Vanstar. Prior, Peter was the CEO, President and Director of Granite Systems, Inc. which became one of the largest service and product suppliers for HP, Apple, IBM, Compaq and Microsoft.

Peter graduated from the University of California, Berkeley and has won the 1998 Red Herring Entrepreneur of the Year award and has twice been a finalist to the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year award.

Monica Kumar, Senior Director, Linux, Virtualization, Open Source, Oracle
Monica Kumar is senior director of Linux, Virtualization and Open Source Product Marketing at Oracle Corporation. She leads a team responsible for driving the product marketing, business development,, customer and sales support strategies. She is also responsible for strategic marketing partnerships with hardware and software vendors. As an evangelist for Linux, virtualization and open source, Ms. Kumar often represents Oracle in customer, partner and industry events. Prior to her role in the Linux Program Office, Ms. Kumar managed global partner alliances as well as worked in Oracle's Database Product Marketing and Server Technologies Division in various product marketing and product management roles. Prior to joining Oracle more than a decade ago, Ms. Kumar spent five years in various roles within the Product Marketing division at Informix Corp. Ms. Kumar has a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and a master's degree in Business Administration.

Joe Lacik, Senior Vice President of Information Services,
Aviall Services, Inc.

Mr. Lacik currently serves as the Senior Vice President of Information Services for Aviall.  Aviall is the world’s largest independent provider of after market supply chain management services in the aerospace industry.  In September 2006 Aviall was purchased be Boeing as a wholly owned subsidiary.  In 2002 ComputerWorld’s Laureate Honors Program recognized Aviall and Mr. Lacik.   InfoWorld recognized Aviall’s IT team assembled by Mr. Lacik as one of the Top 100 in the World for 2002.

Mr. Lacik attended Villanova University in Villanova, Pennsylvania.  In 1977 he received a bachelor of arts in sociology and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. While serving, he also earned his masters of arts in business management in 1981 from Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant, Michigan.  During his time in the Corps he served aboard various ships and in duty stations worldwide.  Captain Lacik was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal on behalf of the President.  In 1990 Captain Lacik left the Corps to join SPRINT in Kansas City, Kansas.

In 1994 Mr. Lacik was recruited to be the Vice President of Information Technology at Cameron Ashley Building Products in Dallas, Texas, where he was an Officer of the company.  He helped grow the revenue of the company from $200 million to over $1 billion annually. In 1997, Mr. Lacik was recruited to be the Chief Information Officer and Vice President of PRONET located in Dallas, Texas.  At the time, PRONET was the fifth largest wireless messaging company in the country. In 1998 PRONET was purchased by Metrocall, located in Alexandria, Virginia.  He was promoted to the position of Vice President of Strategic Information Systems.

In 1999 Mr. Lacik was recruited to be the Senior Director of Information Technology at AMFM, a $3.2 billion entertainment company.  He played a key role in the highly profitable and successful sale of the company.  Once again he created a new technology strategy and team.  He was also part of a major E-commerce initiative.  While at AMFM he was recruited to his current position as Senior Vice President of Information Services at Aviall, located in Dallas, Texas.

Chris Mattmann, Senior Computer Scientist, NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory
Dr. Chris Mattmann has a wealth of experience in software design and in the construction of large-scale data-intensive systems. His work has infected a broad set of communities, ranging from helping NASA unlock data from its next generation of earth science system satellites, to assisting graduate students at the University of Southern California (his alma mater) in the study of software architecture, all the way to helping industry and open source as a member of the Apache Lucene Project Management Committee (PMC).

When he¹s not busy being busy, he¹s spending time with his lovely wife and son braving the mean streets of Southern California.

Dave Mcallister, Director, Open Source and Standards, Adobe
As director, Open Source and Standards (OSS) for Core Services at Adobe Systems, Dave is focused on the company’s long-term strategic direction as it relates to leveraging standards and open-source technologies to differentiate Adobe. McAllister is Adobe’s representative to Ecma International, and is also an active member of the W3C eGovernment efforts,.

McAllister came to Adobe in 2006. Prior to joining Adobe, he founded Open Source Business Technologies, a consultancy that helps venture capital firms understand the commercial opportunities created by open-source technologies. Before starting his own firm, McAllister co-founded software maker Cassatt Corp. Earlier in his career, he served as vice president and general manager of NEC’s server business in the U.S, launching NEC into the Linux HPC space in the US. He helped create the blade server market as an early member of Egenera. He spent almost 10 years at Silicon Graphics (SGI) where he started as a kernel engineer. Over his time in SGI, he managed most of the software development products, compilers and tools, and was the principal person that brought Linux and open source into SGI.

He often speaks on topics such as the legal and technical issues associated with open-source software, as well as on virtualization, creating new technology companies. Zack Urlocker has worked for 25 years in the software industry and has held executive positions in engineering and marketing at a range of enterprise software companies.  Previously, Urlocker held the title of executive vice president of products at MySQL, the open source database company, responsible for engineering and marketing.
