WorkshopThe Practical Science of Prioritization

, President, Reinertsen & Associates

All product developers must confront the problem of prioritization. What do we work on first? You’d think that most companies make this choice with a sound understanding of its economic consequences – but you’d be wrong. In reality, many companies settle for appealing notions like, “do more valuable work before less valuable work”. Brilliantly simple, but tragically wrong. Focusing on value sounds like hard-nosed economic thinking, but it’s not. With relatively little effort we can find much better approaches, such as Weighted Shortest Job First (WSJF) which is rapidly gaining traction with the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). In this workshop Don Reinertsen will discuss some simple ways to think more clearly, and more quantitatively about prioritization.
