Matthew Smeal National Communications Manager Opportunity International Australia Matthew Smeal is a photographer, writer and videographer who specialises in the humanitarian sector. As the son of a film producer, he grew up around cameras, studios, and television production facilities. But while studying cinematography, and during his early years in the television industry, he found that he craved time alone with a camera and had a growing need to tell stories that mattered. In 2006, Matthew headed to Uganda, Kenya and Cambodia on a photojournalism assignment – writing a feature story for the Sydney Morning Herald and working with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF / Doctors Without Borders) for the first time. More assignments, employment and contracts followed and he has since worked with organisations including MSF, UNICEF, The Fred Hollows Foundation and Opportunity International in communications, content and media positions. | |
