Durban International Convention Centre

Opened by former president, Nelson Mandela in 1997, the Inkosi Albert Luthuli ICC Complex was South Africa's first international convention centre. The Centre is a versatile venue of enormous dimensions, flexible enough to meet any need; big or small, no matter how extraordinary. The building itself is over a kilometer in length, longer than 10 football pitches or large enough to park 14 Boeing-747s end-to-end. This world class facility, renowned for its high standards of quality service, has been rated amongst the World's Top 15 convention centres and it has also been voted "Africa's Leading Meetings and Conference Centre" at the World Travel Awards no less than 15 times in the last 16 years.

The Durban ICC is fully Wi-Fi equipped and connectivity is complimentary to all delegates and guests. The Centre is located 30 minutes from the King Shaka International Airport and over 3,600 hotel rooms are within a 10-minute walk of the centre.

In 2004, work began on an extension to cater for the increasing demand. The extension was built on the site of the old Durban Central Prison, which had housed many prominent figures incarcerated during the struggle against Apartheid. One of the original Guard Towers and two of the old prison walls have been preserved as a reminder of the historical significance of this site. The outer prison wall that runs along Walnut Road has been decorated by local artists with elements of the South Africa Bill of Rights.

The full complex was renamed the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre Complex in 2007 in remembrance of the former Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and former President of the African National Congress, Albert Luthuli.

The Durban ICC has proved a pivotal catalyst for the Durban and Kwa-Zulu Natal economy. The Durban ICC delivers a 5-star events experience, geared to exceeding their client's expectations in an innovative, sustainable and proudly African way. The Durban ICC has established Durban on the global conferencing map.
