This is our 3rd annual Abstracts/Poster Competition. Last year was a huge success with over 60 abstract submissions and six (6) winners in Resident and Non-Resident categories.

Suitable Topics
The Desert Foot Conference focuses on the latest techniques in diabetic limb salvage and lower extremity wound care. Topics suitable for this Abstract/Poster competition include:
Original research, retrospective or meta-analysis are all acceptable.
GUIDELINES
Abstract Requirements
IMPORTANT: Please review the following, before you complete and submit your application. All applications are limited to a total of no more than 300 words, and should include:
- Title: Try to keep title as concise as possible. Capitalize first letter of each major word
- List of Authors: List primary author first, all other contributors should be included in order of their degree of contribution to the finished work, include degrees and affiliations for each
- Category: Resident, Non Resident, or Sponsor
- Aims/Objectives/Goal/Purpose: What does the research intend to demonstrate?
- Materials and Methods: What methods and procedures were used to document and analyze your findings?
- Results: Discuss the results of the study and analysis
- Conclusions: Authors conclusions and opinions are presented in this section
- Submission Deadline: October 15, 2012
- Notification of Acceptance: October 26, 2012
- Poster Upload: Upload a pdf version of your poster by November 1, 2012
JUDGEMENT
All poster presenters must be registered and attend the meeting. Abstracts/Posters will be peer-reviewed by a committee chosen by the Desert Foot Advisory Committee. Awards will be announced at the conference, Friday, November 16th.
EVALUATION CRITERIA
Scientific method:
- Are the methods appropriate for the type of study?
- Are the statistics or comparisons meaningful or related to the outcomes?
Perceived importance:
- Do the results or presentation have any meaning to everyday practice?
- Do the results suggest changing clinical practice?
- Are the results preliminary requiring further investigation?
Innovation:
- Is the study unique?
- Does it offer something new?
Evidence Level:
- What level of evidence does this study/presentation represent?
- Is it high enough to consider using in patient care?
- Does it require further investigation before using in patient care?

Resident and Non Resident
There will be 3 awards for each category as follows:

Please make sure, at least, one person is registered for the Desert Foot Conference and they should bring the poster to be displayed on 11/14 thru 11/16. Please check in at the Desert Foot Registration desk. They can help you with any questions and also can supply you with push pins to hang your posters. The poster boards are 4' x 8' (48" x 96") You will need to hang your poster on your numbered poster frame in the designated area (Poster/Abstract). Posters must be hung by 10:00 am on 11/14 and will remain in place until 3PM on Nov 16, 2012. All Abstracts and/or posters must be removed by 5PM on November 16th or they will be discarded.
The Abstract/Poster Award Ceremony will take place on 11/16, during the Gala Lunch Buffet.
Abstract Poster Reception
There will be a reception for the first time to attract greater interest in the competition and to allow dedicated time for you to stand by your posters, and respond to questions from conference attendees.
Posters will be displayed on 4 x 8 poster cork boards in the 2nd Floor Lobby of the Arizona Grand Conference Center. Push pins will be available for mounting your posters to the boards. Your poster must be hung by 10am on Weds, Nov 14.
The reception will be held during the lunch from 11am-1pm on Weds, Nov 14, the first day of the conference. Attendees will be in lecture session in the morning. At 11am, an announcement will be made from the podium that lunch will be served in the Exhibit Hall, and the Poster Abstract Reception will begin in the 2nd Floor Lobby. Attendees will grab lunch, and then head up to the reception. Beverages will be served in the Exhibit Hall, and also right next to the posters in the 2nd floor lobby.
