Richard spent his early career working in European road and sea freight management and for the past five years he has been involved in a series of European projects related to port cooperation and development. Currently living in Latvia, Richard is the Secretary General of the European Port Community Systems Association. This new association is the first time Port Community System Operators have come together in a European Association to provide a voice for electronic data interchange operators within the Maritime and Logistics sector in the EU. Richard is involved with Port Community Systems and how they link to national maritime and customs single window initiatives. Richard also manages his own maritime consultancy business, Jura Associates ltd, specialising in the port and terminal development, identification of new markets and routes, and UK/European funding for port development of logistics projects. He is well respected within the Baltic Sea Region for his regional knowledge of Ports and is involved in terminal feasibility studies and applications to Europe for funds for port and hinterland infrastructure developments.
