Mr. Marek Helm joined the Customs in 1999. During 2003-2006 he was working in the management of the Tax and Customs Board being responsible for the integration of the tax authority’s customs and tax supervision systems upon merger of the jobs. 2006-2007, while working in the Ministry of the Interior, Mr. Helm was a member of the project team of internal security that prepared Estonia to join the Schengen legal system. As from September 2007, he was responsible for the establishment of the Police and Border Guard Board within the government area of the Ministry of the Interior. In 2009 Mr. Helm joined the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Estonia and was responsible for the development of the state’s public service, public procurements and state aid, policy of the state real estate as well as arranging the work of the state’s accountancy and State Treasury. Since February 2012 Mr Helm is back at the management of the Estonian Tax and Customs Board holding the position of the Director General.
