The NASA Stennis Space Center Office of Education is providing a 5-hour educator professional development STEM workshop.

Understanding Our Earth Through STEM

Date: May 31, 2018

Time: 9:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. CT (30-minute lunch)

Please plan to arrive at the Stennis Space Center between 8:00 - 8:30am to allow time to stop at gate and pick up your badge.

Audience: In-service, pre-service, home school and informal STEM educators of grades 4-8

Location: Stennis Space Center Rouchon House (download map)

Please bring your lunch and snacks - no food service is available at the SSC Rouchon House

You must be a US citizen to obtain a badge to enter the Stennis Space Center.


This “Earth-based” workshop integrates science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) with Earth observations, remote sensing, maps and natural resources as we explore and investigate our planet Earth, with the unique perspective from space. NASA missions, curriculum and online resources will be integrated for a better understanding of our Earth and the processes that shape it.


Online pre-registration is required to participate.

Registration will be limited to 30 educators.

Registration will close when 30 educators are registered or May 27, 2018.

CEU's will be offered for 5.0 hours of attendance.



 






 

Steve Culivan is the NASA STEM Education Professional Development Collaborative Specialist at the Stennis Space Center in Mississippi. Mr. Culivan develops and provides NASA STEM online and face-to-face professional development programs for in-service, pre-service and informal educators. Mr. Culivan was the Principal Investigator for two International Space Station (ISS) in-flight education demonstrations. He additionally developed and co-developed several NASA curriculum products. Prior to his current twenty-eight year career with NASA Education, Mr. Culivan taught middle school Earth and Space Science, life science, English, art and coached several sports. He holds a current Louisiana teaching certificate in science and English. Mr. Culivan received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Louisiana Tech University and a Masters of Science degree in Education from Oklahoma State University.
