Director General


         Jérôme FOURNEL has been appointed French customs and excise general director on February 1st 2007. Previously, Mr. Fournel was a counsellor for the Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin. He was dealing with fiscal issues and more generally coordinating economic issues in the Prime Minister’s office. 

         From April 2004 to May 2005, he worked as a budget counsellor for the Prime Minister 
Jean-Pierre Raffarin. From July 2002 to April 2004, he was a counsellor of Luc Ferry, the Minister of Youth, Education and Research, and of Xavier DARCOS, the Delegated Minister of School Teaching. 

         Formerly, he spent 3 years at the International Monetary Fund, in Washington DC, working on Fund programs and technical assistanceespecially on post war countries. 

         He started working as a civil service administrator in the Ministry of Finance. 

         Mr. Fournel graduated from HEC (Hautes Etudes Commerciales) in 1990 and from ENA (Ecole Nationale d’Administration) in 1995. He also holds a master in public law. 

         He is 44, married and has three children.
