Judging process

The judging process is rigorous and thorough to ensure that all the entries receive full consideration.

Judges will take part in a judging conference call, where the winners will be decided. Each member of the judging panel will have an equal vote in choosing the winners in each category. Decisions should be unanimous, but a majority will suffice.

Judges have discretionary power to move submissions into alternative categories that they think may be more suitable. All judges are required to sign a disclaimer form to keep information about entries and the final winners confidential.

Judging panel:

The judging panel will comprise representatives from CTA Intelligence, leading institutional, private investors and other industry experts.

Kevin Craney
Kevin Craney,Associate Director of Asset Management , RJ OASIS
Kevin is the Associate Director of RJ OASIS. He is primarily responsible for business development activities for OASIS working with both investors and managers to provide alternative investment solutions. Kevin’s financial career includes experience as Associate Director of Managed Futures, Senior Trading Consultant, Investor Relations Analyst, Treasury and Cash Management. Kevin received his undergraduate degree from Western Kentucky University and MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University. Kevin is a level II Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Candidate.

Duncan Crawford
Duncan Crawford, Global Head of Hedge Fund Sales. Prime Services, Societe Generale
As Global Head of Hedge Fund Sales Duncan is responsible for managing the Firm’s prime brokerage, capital introductions and advisory teams. The team combines expertise across global exchanges, instruments and asset classes with a deep understanding of clients' hedge fund trading strategies, their structure, operations and financial goals to deliver superior, integrated solutions.
Duncan Crawford previously ran the global Capital Introductions team for over 12 years. In this capacity he was responsible for a diversified team of people and the team’s duties involve manager and investor sourcing and facilitation of investments through multiple initiatives.
Duncan joined Fimat in 1991 in the clearing business, before becoming a futures broker in 1992. He ran the execution desk from ’96 to 2000, when he moved over to set-up and develop the Capital Introductions effort for Fimat’s Prime Brokerage Group. He has been in his current position since the merger in early 2008.
Duncan left Newcastle upon Tyne University in 1990 with a BSc Hons in Agriculture and Food Marketing.

Per H Ivarsson
Per H Ivarsson, Executive Vice President and Head of Investment Management, RPM Risk & Portfolio Management AB
Per H Ivarsson, born 1970, serves as Executive Vice President and Head of Investment Management of RPM Risk & Portfolio Management AB. Mr. Ivarsson joined RPM in 2003. Prior to joining RPM, Mr. Ivarsson provided consultancy work in investment banking, heading up a team of consultants in the interest rate and credit derivative areas. Mr. Ivarsson holds a Master of Science in Engineering Physics from Chalmers University of Technology. In addition, Mr. Ivarsson has studied Financial Economics at the University of Gothenburg.

Chad Martinson
Chad Martinson, Managing Director, Investments, CAIA
Mr. Martinson is the Managing Director, Investments at Efficient Capital Management, LLC where he serves as the portfolio manager for Efficient’s flagship managed futures fund. In addition, Mr. Martinson leads the Investment Team and is a member of the Senior Executive Committee. Mr. Martinson joined Efficient Capital Management in 2002 and has served as the Portfolio Manager since the beginning of 2008. He currently directs the investment of more than $2.5 billion in nominal assets. Mr. Martinson graduated from Taylor University in 1994 with a BA in Chemistry/Pre-med. He holds a Series 3 license and is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Designee (CAIASM)

Diane Miller
Diane Miller , Principal, Mercer Investments
Diane is a Principal in the Hedge Fund Boutique, a unit within Mercer Investments. Located in London, she is lead researcher for managed futures globally and for fundamental macro and alternative risk premia in Europe and Asia. She also researches other hedge fund strategies such as active currency. Diane chairs the Macro Ratings Review Committee and is a member of the UK Ratings Review Committee. Diane was named one of the most influential women in financial services in Europe, the Middle East and Asia in the 2009 and 2015 Financial News 100 Women in Finance lists.
Diane has over 25 years of experience within the pensions and investment industry. She joined Mercer in 2001 as a Senior Consultant. Prior to moving full-time to manager research in early 2005, she was involved in advising clients on investment consulting issues. Before joining Mercer, she was an Associate Director at Morley and its predecessor companies, General Accident and Provident Mutual, where she worked as a fund manager, specialising in UK equities and asset allocation for pension fund clients. Diane has a degree in mathematics from University College, London and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries.

Chris Solarz
Chris Solarz, Managing Director, CLIFFWATER LLC
Chris is a Managing Director of Cliffwater LLC in our New York office and a member of the hedge fund research team. Prior to joining Cliffwater in 2011, Chris was a Senior Analyst at SAIL Advisors, where he focused on manager selection and due diligence as Head of Research for tactical trading and relative value strategies. Previous experience includes working for ING Investment Management, Antarctica Asset Management, Societe Generale Barr Devlin, and CIBC World Markets.
He earned a BA in Economics and Anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania and a MComm in Finance from the University of New South Wales, where he was a Federation Scholar. Chris is a Certified Public Accountant, holds the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst® designation, the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation, and is a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts. Chris has broken 6 Guinness World Records, has run marathons on all 7 continents and in all 50 US states.

Tom Wake Walker
Tom Wake Walker, Vice President , Redington’s Manager Research
Tom is a Vice President in Redington’s Manager Research team, primarily covering liquid market strategies with a particular focus on systematic managers. Tom joined Redington in June 2016 from Novus Partners working both in New York and Zurich, where most latterly he was responsible for their entire European client base. Tom started his career at LyonRoss Capital Management in New York conducting research and allocating to hedge fund strategies. He holds a BSc in Economics and International Development from the University of Bath and the CFA Society UK’s Investment Management Certificate
