Description: Often times we are restoring anterior teeth that are either missing, worn down, chipped or previously restored. When we provide our patients with a beautiful new smile that corrects all of these imperfections, sometimes we create other potential issues - even with the newest materials, that are stronger and highly esthetic. This lecture focuses on some basics of anterior guidance and incisal edge position of the new restorations and what to watch out for to avoid failure.

Learning Objectives:

  • Review and discuss basic principles of anterior guidance and incisal edge shape and positions.
  • Recognize the different wear patterns that impact case design.
  • Brief case reviews discussing how changing incisal edge position, length and shape can affect the longevity of restorations.
