Description: Early detection of benign, premalignant and malignant conditions is one of the most important responsibilities of the dentist. A lesion is a zone of tissue with impaired function as a result of damage by disease or wounding; its described by size, color, appearance, consistency and texture. Consent, specimen handling and submission, armamentarium and techniques will be reviewed.

  • Develop a greater understanding of the pathogenesis of oral soft tissue lesions.
  • Understand the value of diagnostic and surgical adjuncts.
  • Perform soft tissue biopsies using conventional techniques.
