Description: Periodontal surgery can be utilized to access root surfaces for debridement, as well as reduce probing depths facilitating maintenance. Utilizing a pig jaw, this participation course will review the basic techniques utilized in conventional periodontal surgery. This will include surgical incisions, flap elevation, osseous resection, and suturing techniques. A review of anatomical considerations will be provided. Instruments, suture materials, and dressings used in periodontal surgery will be presented. In addition, techniques for gingival grafting also will be discussed.
