Description: This lecture course will review the etiology, classification, and indications for treatment of gingival recession and concomitant mucogingival defects. Orthodontic therapy as a risk factor for recession will be discussed. In addition, this course will discuss techniques for surgical exposure of ectopic teeth for orthodontic extrusion.
Learning objectives:
- Review the etiology of gingival recession, as well as risk factors associated with orthodontic therapy.
- Review the Miller classification system for gingival recession.
- Review the indications for and limitations of gingival recession treatment.
- Learn about procedures for increasing attached gingiva.
- Learn about techniques root coverage.
- Be able to discuss radiographic evaluation of ectopic teeth.
- Learn about procedures for exposure of ectopic teeth located on the buccal or palatal.
