Description: Dental caries is a chronic infectious disease affecting children and adults. This lecture course will address trends in caries epidemiology, describe new diagnostic technologies, and discuss minimally invasive approaches to caries management. With early detection, the clinician should be able to redirect management from a restorative (surgical) approach to a medical (preventive) one.
Learning objectives:
- Be able to discuss the etiology and epidemiology of dental caries.
- Be able to establish a risk management program for caries management in the dental practice, incorporating a team approach.
- Be able to define CAMBRA (“caries management by risk assessment”) and utilize this method to identify a patient’s risk potential for developing carious lesions.
- Be able to discuss treatment implementation plans.
