Description: Participation in sports activities spans all generations, and the risk for orofacial injuries as a result of a sports-related accident has no boundaries. The use of a properly fitted athletic mouth guard sometimes can make the difference between a minor injury and a dental tragedy. Attendees of this participation course will learn important trauma assessment criteria and the proper techniques for designing and fabricating a custom athletic mouthguard on a study cast using a dual layering method and a pressure-laminated technique.

Learning objectives:
  • Gain knowledge of orofacial trauma situations and their appropriate responses.
  • Understand what constitutes a properly made custom mouthguard.
  • Learn the advantages of using a pressure-laminated technique instead of vacuum forming.
  • Be able to fabricate your own personal mouthguard using a dual layer concept.
