Mr. Michael Halkitis was born February 1, 1969 in Nassau, Bahamas and is married to Dr. Tracy Roberts-Halkitis. They have two children Kiran and Soraya.


Political Highlights: Mr. Halkitis was sworn in as the Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance on May 10, 2012.


Present Ministerial Portfolio: Government finance and borrowings, revenue, Treasury Department, Customs Department, budgetary planning and Central Bank of The Bahamas, Bahamas Development Bank, Mortgage Relief Programme, banks and trust companies, insurance, relations with the Securities Commission, relations with the Insurance Commission, Post Office Savings Bank, spirits and beer manufacturing, auctions, Treasure Trove, wrecks, business licences and valuations, guarantee loans (tourism development) regulations of Financial Services, and First Time Homeowners Tax Exemption Programme.


Mr. Halkitis was elected to Parliament for the first time on May 2, 2002, as the Member of Parliament for the Adelaide Constituency. He was appointed to the Senate in 2007 by the Leader of The Opposition Rt. Hon. Perry G. Christie.


Education: A graduate of St. Augustine’s College, Michael began his tertiary career at The College of The Bahamas. He earned a Bachelors degree in Economics from the University of Western Ontario, Canada in 1991.


Professional/Career:  Mr. Halkitis was a Financial Analyst, Trader, Portfolio Manager and Private Banker. He is currently the Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance.
