Bio

Mr. Hideharu Tanaka, Counselor (International Cooperation), Ministry of Finance, Japan, joined the ministry in April 1991.  He obtained his Master’s degree in Laws at the Cambridge University, United Kingdom.  Over the past 24 years, he has been engaged in a wide range of areas at the ministry, as well as the National Tax Agency, the Financial Services Agency and Cabinet Legislation Bureau.  Since July 2013, he is responsible for the matters on international cooperation of Japan Customs.  His domain covers customs technical assistance programmes and capacity building activities which Japan Customs provide.  For example, he is currently supervising Japanese projects of introduction of customs clearance system to Vietnam and Myanmar.  His responsibility also includes the matters of multilateral customs cooperation and oversees WCO and APEC matters.  Currently he serves as a Vice-chair of the WCO Finance Committee.
