Bio

Rachid Benjelloun is a Principal Associate at Nathan Associates with 17 years of economic development experience. He currently serves as Managing Director for the company’s Trade Facilitation practice where he oversees all of the company’s trade facilitation activities and projects. From 2009 to August 2013 he managed the USAID-funded ASEAN Single Window Project, based in Jakarta, Indonesia, where he supported ASEAN’s effort to connect National Single Windows of Member States and expedite cargo clearance in the region. Prior to the ASW Project he worked in Egypt for seven years on trade capacity building, trade policy reform, trade facilitation, and establishing a single agency in charge of food safety in Egypt. As the trade policy and trade facilitation team leader on the USAID-funded $124 million Technical Assistance for Policy Reform project (TAPRII) in Egypt, he worked across government agencies and private sector to help establish a single agency that is responsible for import and domestic inspection and testing, food laws and regulations, awareness, etc. Before his Egypt assignment, Mr. Benjelloun was the Chief of Party for a two-year trade and investment project in Madagascar. The project involved technical assistance and training in trade policy and establishment of a Madagascar – U.S. Business Council. Mr. Benjelloun also designed, managed and led technical assignments for the Uganda Trade Policy Capacity Building Project for three years. Mr. Benjelloun holds an MBA in International Business and a M.A. in International Affairs, and a B.B.A. in Marketing.
