Dato’ Sri Khazali Ahmad was appointed the Director General of Customs, Royal Malaysian Customs Department since 22nd June 2012.

 

He began his career in the Civil Service as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer on December 1, 1981 as Assistant Secretary, Services Division, Public Services Department (1981-1983) and subsequently as the Education Attaché, Malaysia Students Department, London, Ministry of Education (1984-1987) overseeing Malaysian students studying in Britain.

 

He was appointed as Assistant Secretary, Ministry of Health (1988-1992) before being promoted as Assistant Director, International Trade Division, Ministry of International Trade and Industry (1992-1993) where his involvement in the formulation of International Trade and Tax policies began and led to his appoinment as Malaysian Trade Commissioner in Beijing, China, (1993-1996).


Dato Sri Khazali served as the Principal Assistant Secretary, (1997) and promoted as Section Head, Tax Analyst Division, Ministry of Finance (2004-2007). His excellent acumen for tax and tax management led to his appointment as Deputy Director General of Customs, Royal Malaysian Customs (2009-2011) after assisting the Chief Secretary, Government of Malaysia (2007-2009) as his Special Functions Officer. He was selected for a short stint as Federal Secretary of the State of Sabah, Prime Minister’s Department from  October 2011 before being reappointed in Royal Malaysian Customs as the Director General of Customs.

 

Dato’ Sri Khazali’s appointment as the Director General of Customs was made based on his qualification, experience, and outstanding performance in the field of economy, tax management and finance during his career. He holds a Master Degree in Economics from Central State University, Oklahoma, United States of America; and a Bachelor Degree in Economics (Agricultural Economics) from National University of Malaysia.
