Dr. Michael Darville was appointed Senator in 2009 by the Leader of the Opposition the Rt. Hon. Perry G. Christie. Dr. Darville served as President of the Grand Bahama PLP Counsel during 2008 and 2009. He is also a present member of the Pineridge Branch of the Progressive Liberal Party having joined in 2007.

Political highlights: Dr. Darville was sworn in as Minister for Grand Bahama on May 10, 2012.

Relations with the Grand Bahama Port Authority

Revitalisation and promotion of Grand Bahama as a tourism and industrial centre

Extension of duty concessions to East and West Grand Bahama

Promotion of agricultural development in Grand Bahama

Advancement of health and educational infrastructure in liaison with the relevant ministries

Promotion of employment and entrepreneurial opportunities in Grand Bahama

Social Services for Grand Bahama

Community relocation and rehabilitation in East and West Grand Bahama

Environmental protection for Grand Bahama

Education: He received his early and secondary education at Queen’s College in Nassau, Bahamas. Mr. Darville completed his tertiary education at the College of The Bahamas with an Associates degree in Engineering. He went on to complete a Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering at the University of Windsor in Canada, and University of London College of Engineering Studies. He later went on to study Medicine at the University of the West Indies.

Civics/Social: Dr. Darville is currently a Member of the Bahamas Medical Council

Professional/Career: Dr. Darville is currently a Partner and Family Physician at the Grand Bahama Medical Centre in Freeport. Prior to this Dr. Darville served as a Medical Doctor for the Bahamas Government in the Ministry of Health. He was also self-employed as an engineer.

As the Member of Parliament for Pineridge Mr. Darville plans to lobby for infrastructural developments for the constituency of Pineridge. He also plans to establish a Jobs Programme and other programmes that aim to empower youth.
