Mr. Mattia Pellegrini
Head of Cabinet of the European Commission ad interim for Industry and Enterprise

Mattia PELLEGRINI has recently been appointed as Head of Cabinet of the European Commissioner ad interim for Industry and Enterprise. He previously held the position of Head of Unit for F.3 Raw Materials, Metals, Minerals and Forest-based Industries. Before this, he worked as Member of the Cabinet of the Vice president of the European Commission, in charge of Enterprise and Industry. Before that, he was Deputy Head of Unit at the European Commission in the Strategy and Analysis Unit of DG Health and Consumer Protection (DG SANCO. Mr Pellegrini has previously worked in DG Environment, where he was responsible for WTO negotiations on Trade and Environment, and in DG Competition (Merger Task Force). He holds a Master’s Degree in European Legal Studies obtained at the College of Europe, Bruges, and a postgraduate diploma in EC Law obtained at L.U.I.S.S. “Guido Carli”, University of Rome. Prior to that, he has studied Political Science at L.U.I.S.S. “Guido Carli”, University of Rome and Law at the University of Liège, “Institut d’études juridiques européennes F. Dehousse”.


Mr. Philippe Destatte
Futurist

Philippe Destatte lives in Wallonia (Belgium) on the French border. He serves as director general of The Destree Institute (European think-tank and research centre). He is Associate Professor at the University of Mons (History of the society and institutions) and at Paris Diderot University, where he is in charge of the Foresight course.
He is also teaching Foresight applied to Sustainable Development at Reims University. He acquired skills in foresight both in Paris, in the United States (Houston University), as well by working on the field, in European Regions, organizations and companies.

Daniel J. Reuss

Mr. Daniel J. Reuss
IMA-Europe President, CEO Region Europe, Omya

During and after his Business Administration studies at the University of Cologne, Mr. Reuss has been working for the Omya Group in different countries: at Omya Inc. / United States, Omya Italy / Milano, Omya Benelux / Brussels and Omya Germany / Cologne. Within these Omya affiliates, he held various positions such as commercial director, managing director, etc.

In 2008 he became part of the European Management Team in the Omya Group as General Manager Sales Europe. Since 2011 he holds the position of CEO of the Region Europe. Mr. Reuss joined the CCA-Europe Board in 2001 and became member of the IMA- Board in 2010. Since 2012 he is IMA-Europe President.

Vice President of Global Environment, Health & Safety/Sustainable Development, Imerys SA.

Imerys is a € 3.4 billion industrial minerals company with 260 operations in 48 countries. Chris is based in the Paris headquarters of Imerys and manages all aspects of the company's worldwide commitment to continuous improvement in safety, environmental stewardship, and sustainable development.
Prior to Imerys, Chris was the Corporate Director of Environmental, Health and Safety for Goodrich Corporation, a $5.5 billion aerospace company where he was responsible for all aspects of EHS for Goodrich including due diligence, remediation, compliance and injury prevention.
Prior to Goodrich, Chris was a privately practicing attorney in New York City, and also worked for law firms in Washington, DC and Tokyo. Chris has a J. D. and B. A. from Georgetown University. 


Mr. John Van Put
Director Group Strategic Development at Sibelco

John van Put is currently Director Group Strategic Development at Sibelco. Previously, he worked as Member of the Executive Board with H.C. Starck. At. H.C. Starck he held various positions: from Head of Sales and Marketing to Business Unit head.

He was also the CEO of the H.C. Starck International Sales GmbH. Before that, he was with Umicore, where he held positions in various fields; ranging from manager R&D, marketing manager, associate director Corporate Development (M&A) to BU manager. He holds a Master’s degree in Mining Engineering and a Doctors degree in Chemical Process Engineering. He earned both degrees at the Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands.


Mr. Torkel Rhenman
Chief Executive Officer

Torkel Rhenman became Chief Executive Officer of Lhoist in 2012. As CEO, he is in charge of the company's daily management with the support of the Group Executive Committee. 

Prior to Lhoist, Torkel built his career with DuPont where he spent 26 years on various continents. He joined the US chemicals company in 1986, first in sales and marketing positions, later in manufacturing and management positions. During 22 years, he built his professional experience in Sweden, UK, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Belgium, Japan and the US. In 2008, he was appointed CEO of Solae LLC, a specialty food ingredient joint venture between DuPont and the US agribusiness group Bunge. Torkel Rhenman holds a MSc in Chemical Engineering from The Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm (Sweden). 



Mr. Sven H. Schultheis
Head of Business Unit Functional Minerals & Senior Vice President of Clariant

Sven H. Schultheis counts more than 25 years in the chemical and minerals industry with in depth experience into different value chains such as Coatings, Plastics, Adhesives and Industrial Minerals. Sven began his career with Hoechst AG in 1989 in Frankfurt, Germany and went on to spent many years in Latin America in various functions and businesses. His responsibility included President Clariant Columbia (2002-2005), Head of Business Unit Masterbatches Latin America (2006-2009).

Prior to his present position he headed the global Business Unit Emulsions (2009-2011) of Clariant. Clariant is a world leader in specialty chemicals headquartered in Muttenz Switzerland. The company is represented on 5 continents with over 100 group companies, employing 17.000 people with sales at approximately 6 billion CHF, the company is operating with 7 Business Units.

Sven holds a bachelor of Science in management from the International School of Management in Dortmund and completed the MBA Empreserial at the Brazilian Business School FDC. Born in Hanau, Germany in 1970, he lived up to now in 11 countries, is married and has 3 children. 


Mr. Danny Croon
Environment Director Eurofer

Danny Croon started working for ICI Polyurethanes in 1995 at the International SHE department. In 1999, Danny entered the world of European Confederations. From 1999 to 2002 as Environmental adviser for the European Panel Federation (EPF) and the European Confederation of Woodworking Industries (CEI-Bois). He joined the European Confederation of Pulp and Paper Industries (CEPI) in 2002 where he held the position of Environment and Process Manager. Danny joined the European Steel Association (EUROFER -http://www.eurofer.eu/) in April 2008 as REACH Manager and Deputy Environment Director. He became EUROFER’s Environment Director in December 2010. Danny studied Chemistry and Environmental Sciences, including general principles of toxicology at respectively HORTECO, the Open University and UIA (University of Antwerp).


Mrs. Cathy Smith
Moderator

Cathy Smith is a television and radio journalist who has spent many years specializing in European affairs as a Brussels based correspondent and presenter. She has been a Europe correspondent for BBC News and the UK breakfast channel GMTV and is a former presenter of Britain's Channel 4 News. Cathy now presents the European Journal, a weekly programme on DeutscheWelle TV. She works for a wide range of clients as a media trainer and conference moderator.
