8:15 am - 9:30 amKeynote - Body Talk: Nonverbal Communication and its Role in Becoming an Effective Internal Auditor
Speaker: Jan Hargrave, Body Language Expert, Jan Hargrave & Associates
It’s a scientific fact that a person’s body gestures give away his true intentions. Actually, over ninety percent of all face-to-face communication is nonverbal; thus, the silent messages of the body often reveal more than the spoken word in conveying true feelings and attitudes. Jan Hargrave, behavioral authority on nonverbal communication, and author of Let Me See Your Body Talk, Freeway of Love, Judge the Jury, Strictly Business Body Language, and Poker Face, helps internal auditors to improve their communication skills through learning how to: effectively make a positive first impression, persuasively communicate ideas in a professional manner, capably detect “micro-expressions” of deception, and other elements critical for internal audit success.

Internal audit is currently faced with a number of workforce challenges. Stakeholder expectation of valuable insights, the evolution of methodologies, and availability of new tools and technologies have, in part, created a demand for expertise and skillsets in a market with limited supply. Competition between organizations has reinforced the need for effective recruiting, development and retention programs for internal audit departments.

We encourage Internal Audit / Compliance leaders to join us for a panel discussion with a diversified group of Chicago companies and IA leaders who will provide varying perspectives on how the challenges they face and strategies they have used to cultivate the people and skills in their teams.

Note: We encourage attendees to submit questions and topics prior to the session!

Panelists will provide insights and perspectives on:

  1. How to attract talent from new and experienced hires;
  2. Strategies for talent development;
  3. Programs focused on retaining top performers;
