After three years of development, the new IMO/ILO/UNECE Code of Practice for Packing of Cargo Transport Units (CTUs) will be officially released in 2014.
As part of our "Pack It In!" awareness campaign, ICHCA's CTU Packing Roadshows offer practical education and advice on:
- The contents of the new Code
- How it will impact you
- How to adopt it into your operations
All Roadshow attendees will also receive a free copy of the CTUpack e-learning course from EXIS Technologies, developed in partnership with the TT Club.
Why does CTU packing matter?
Poor CTU packing and securing is responsible for an alarmingly high percentage of incidents along the transport chain, leading to cargo damage and loss, injuries and fatalities. The new Code is designed to address this, with in-depth guidelines and information for all members of the logistics chain - from shippers, cargo packers, forwarders and logistics companies through to road, rail and sea carriers, ports and terminals, depots, insurers and other cargo handling interests.
Who does the new Code affect?
Extensively revised and upgraded from the original 1997 CTU Packing Guidelines, the new Code has implications for everyone involved in CTU logistics, covering the full range of unitised transport chains:- General cargo, refrigerated and dangerous goods
- Road, rail, ocean and inland water transport
- Containers, swap bodies, road trailers, tankers and rail cars
