  Welcome and Introduction

Robert Drummond, President, Schlumberger North America
Pierre Bismuth, HR Senior Advisor, Schlumberger Business Consulting

Operators and service companies amongst others are jointly undergoing a tremendous wave of change. Innovation is a key enabler of those changes in dimensions such as: improved subsurface technologies, better integration / synchronization, and more collaboration across the supply chain, etc.

Concrete examples will illustrate the magnitude of the current industry transformation and the importance of HR and Leadership in achieving it.

10:45 am
New Industry Landscape and HR Implications

Muqsit Ashraf, Sr. Vice President and head of North America, SBC
Raul Camba, Sr. Vice President and head of Mexico & Andean Countries, SBC
Jean-Marie Rousset, Vice President and HR Practice Lead, SBC

Unconventional resources have become the new conventional in North America. They are reshuffling global market forces and stimulating innovation and competition. At the same time, the energy reform in Mexico is opening-up a major resource play of global scale, which will provide new portfolio options for regional players. SBC will provide a view of these current market dynamics, and their implications.

Conjointly, the landscape for HR has changed; stimulated by an insatiable growth and by the search for higher returns. New ways of working are emerging, with new roles requiring different competencies or experience. Yet the overlaying effects of the industry macro cycles are still present and are straining the system. Talent and experience are scarce resources and will continue to be for the medium term. New regional opportunities, as in the case of Mexico, will further increase competition in the short term for experienced talent.

SBC will facilitate a discussion on the significance and magnitude of these changes for HR, including lessons learned from the recent past and ways to navigate the upcoming challenges, etc.

The industry will need more - and more diverse - technical and managerial talent and will need to put them in the driving seat faster. For that, companies need to work hand in hand with universities and achieve more seamless and deeper collaborations to: exchange more knowledge, reinforce faculties, better align supply with demand, reduce total time to competency and improve the industry image / value proposition.
Specific examples will illustrate what universities and companies are currently undertaking followed by a Q&A session and a facilitated discussion on the way forward.
